BRANDY ZDAN RELEASES NEW SINGLE "GET TO YOU"

BRANDY ZDAN GET TO YOU

LISTEN TO “GET TO YOU” : HERE

Nashville’s Brandy Zdan has released “Get to You” the second single from her forthcoming album Secretear  out May 11 on Tallest Man Records. The first single ”I Want Your Trouble” released in March has garnered Zdan comparisons to female rockers who write big hooks like Chrissie Hynde and the GoGo’s.

“Clearly drawing inspiration from 70s and 80s pop groups like Talking Heads and The Go Gos, “I Want Your Trouble” is going to have you toe-tapping along to its every beat. With its perfect combination of electric guitar strums and drum hits, “I Want Your Trouble” has all the satisfying elements of the perfect rock n’ roll tune.”  - East of 8th

The Beatles inspired “Get to You”  is a song about unrequited love. It was the very first song written for the album and happens to be Zdan’s personal favorite. Zdan co-produced  Secretear with Teddy Morgan, and recruited My Morning Jacket's Tom Blankenship and Carl Broemel to play on the record.  For this record Zdan shed a lot of her personal skin and her musical past, letting go of those things that held her back from being the best version of herself. The Juno award nominee went back to her rock roots with this album,  and decided to put everything on the line,  so much so that she blew out her voice and ran her fingers raw from playing guitar the first week of recording. Leading into this album release Zdan has been on the road winning over some tough crowds of guitar and blues purists, opening for Doyle Bramhall and then touring with the legendary Buddy Guy.

“Zdan played electric guitar and sang, while accompanied only by a drummer. And while she was playing the blues, it brought back fond memories of another famous guitar-drum duo, The White Stripes.”  - California Rocker

BRANDY ZDAN RELEASE SHOW

Zdan will be performing Secretear in full at Douglas Corner in Nashville on May 11th. Her band for the show will feature Carl Broemel (guitar, pedal steel) and Tom Blankenship (bass) of My Morning Jacket, and Aaron Haynes of The Texas Gentlemen (drums). The show is free with RSVP. LETHAL AMOUNTS ANNOUNCES SPIRITUAL CRAMP: A DOCUMENTARY ON CHRISTIAN DEATH AND ROZZ WILLIAMS

LETHAL AMOUNTS ANNOUNCES SPIRITUAL CRAMP: A DOCUMENTARY ON THE LIFE AND TIMES OF CHRISTIAN DEATH AND ROZZ WILLIAMS

christian-death-metal.jpg

SEE MORE ON THE DOCUMENTARY AT PLEDGE MUSIC

Los Angeles gallery and promoter Lethal Amounts is excited to announce the documentary Spiritual Cramp, a film on the life of Rozz Williams, frontman of seminal goth rock band, Christian Death. Lethal Amounts has partnered with Pledge Music to raise funds to further the production of the documentary. Items available through Pledge Music include rare, limited edition merchandise, art pieces and collectors items. To see the full list of items click HERE.

Spiritual Cramp is more than just a music bio about a death-rock band. It examines the life of Rozz Williams - a young artist coming of age during the California punk explosion of the late 70s. At the young age of 16, Rozz Williams and his friends started Christian Death in their garage as a reaction to the growing hyper-masculine, straight male dominated SoCal punk scene. Christian Death ignited a new musical genre and opened the doors to what later became known as the Goth subculture.

The name Christian Death was an act of defiance in itself, especially for Williams. He grew up in an extremely religious household, and was brought up being told that to be gay sent you straight to hell. Christian Death’s music and their existence as a band acted as a rejection of traditional modes of thought and damaging religious beliefs. Their live shows blurred the lines between art and shock. The band gained a cult-like following around the world, influencing generations of outsiders and countless boundary pushing icons such as Marilyn Manson and Trent Reznor.

Historically, Christian Death is important to the narrative of California music but what’s more, Williams is an archetype for the tortured artist. People looked up to his bravery as he fearlessly dressed in women’s clothing on and off stage in a time and a scene where that kind of self-expression could lead to arrest or even being killed. His image was not meant to be glamorous but to be feared and avoided. Much like Ian Curtis, Amy Winehouse or Kurt Cobain, Williams shared the same dilemma – trying to strike a balance between art and overcoming personal trauma.

Williams’ lifelong battle with depression eventually defeated him in 1998. He took his own life in a way that some may interpret as a staged, elaborate April Fool’s Day “prank” art tableau.

This documentary has been a longtime dream of Lethal Amounts owner and creative director Danny Fuentes. Fuentes grew up in the violent 90’s punk scene of East Los Angeles, dominated by hypermasculine and oftentimes homophobic attitudes. He often  felt obligated to keep his sexuality to himself in order to fit in. When he became interested in Christian Death he was fascinated and inspired by how bold Rozz Williams was when walking around in “Drag” at a punk show. To Fuentes, Williams was the embodiment of strength and fearlessness.

To honor the life of Rozz Williams, Lethal Amounts opened an exhibit at the gallery space in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday April 1st - marking the 20th anniversary of Williams’ passing. The exhibit includes never before seen Christian Death photos by legendary rock photographer Edward Colver, lyric sheets, set lists, original artwork, and personal artifacts that give an intimate look into his life as an artist. The exhibit will be up through the middle of April.

THE MOWGLI'S RELEASE NEW SINGLE "KANSAS CITY"

THE MOWGLI’S RELEASE NEW SINGLE “KANSAS CITY” + CONCLUDE THEIR  NATIONWIDE “REAL GOOD LIFE” TOUR

17kf_KANSASCITY--1.jpeg

LISTEN TO “KANSAS CITY” : HERE

The Mowgli’s have released their new single “Kansas City” and will concluding their current tour at recordBar tomorrow night in Kansas City, MO. For the California band these new songs and this current tour have been all about perspective. The Mowgli’s have experienced the whirlwind that comes with having multiple hit songs; being on major labels, touring constantly, and the personal and professional challenges that come with being a working band. It’s a journey that has tested the band’s stamina, relationships and their mental and emotional health. They been have through ups and downs, including losing band members but the driving force that has kept them going is their mission to bring hope and positivity into the world.

“From political unjust and ‘fake news’ to climate change and tragic natural disasters, it's difficult to see the good things sometimes. But if anyone can do it, it's the Mowgli's.” - Pop Crush

They started off the year releasing the feel good, fist-pumping song, “Real Good Life,” to offer up some relief in these strange sociopolitical times, and give audiences an opportunity to look at the world through a glass half full.

“As if we didn’t already have enough reasons to love them, the alt-rock legends are committed to providing an antidote to all of the negativity pervading the current socio political landscape with “Real Good Life”. It’s uplifting, powerful, and if you’re in the mood for a positivity fix, it’s just what the doctor ordered.”  - Bands In Town

"Kansas City" came from a place of self-reflection. After spending the majority of the past few years on the road, the band developed a deeper connection to the idea of home. Not just the physical space of a home, but the comfort, ease and sense of belonging that home brings. Writing the song was a reminder of the one thing that really makes a place home and a city unique: the people. Whether it’s the food, the architecture, the art, the scenery - it all stems from the people. Kansas City has always been a warm and welcoming place for the band and is somewhere they love playing, somewhere that feels like home. It also happens to be the hometown of guitarist/vocalist Colin Dieden. “This song is about missing the simplicity and familiarity of a life I used to live, that I often find myself looking for now,” says Dieden.  They wrote this song for the City, and for all the people and places who give us a sense of home and make us who we are.

“The California-based band’s set list was chock full of songs spanning their entire discography, including the hit “San Francisco”, and the audience couldn’t have been more thrilled. We all left the show fueled with enough energy to get through the rest of the week.” - WHGB

This 20+ city packed out tour, that wraps up in Kansas City on Saturday March 24th at recordBar, stuck to the same ethos of simplicity and getting back to basics. The band has been playing smaller, sold out rooms on this tour to re-establish a more intimate connection with fans.

“Upbeat pop rock songs, which included plenty of  whistling, snapping, and “doo doo doos,” were interspersed with soliloquies about loving ourselves and those around us.” - Third Coast Review

Formed in 2010 by the coalescing of a Venice music collective, The Mowgli’s began as a 10+ member group playing house parties and warehouse gatherings. The release of their first major-label LP Waiting For The Dawn in 2013 saw immediate success with the hit single “San Francisco." The record - which focused on the joy of bringing people together -  immediately connected in a cynical world. The band quickly found themselves playing to sold out crowds in clubs around the US and inundated by requests for press, sponsorships and partnerships.  Appearances at Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Firefly, Osheaga, Bottlerock and many other festivals followed as did performances on The Tonight Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Conan and a stint as the SXSW House band for Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live (Bravo).

Will Dailey Releases New Single + Announces the Golden Walker album

It Already Would Have Not Worked out By Now

LISTEN TO : “It Already Would Have Not Worked Out by Now” HERE

Boston’s Will Dailey has released “It Already Would Have Not Worked Out By Now,” the first single from his new album Golden Walker due out June 1. After the release of National Throat, Dailey’s first release as an independent artist that debuted in the top 20 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart, garnered over 8 Million streams on Spotify,  earned Dailey Album and Artist of the Year at the Boston Music Awards,  Song of the Year and Producer of the Year at the New England Music Awards, Best of the Year by Improper Bostonian Magazine, and led to him sharing stage and playing with Eddie Vedder, the question was ; what’s next?

“Dailey proved to be a formidable foil for Vedder over the course of the 20-song stretch, particularly on a cover of Squeeze’s sprightly 1980 track ‘Another Nail in My Heart.’” - The Boston Globe (on the Hot Stove performance with Eddie Vedder)

When going into start writing what would become Golden Walker, Dailey started to reflect on an incident that turned out to be one of his most significant days of his life, and marked a major turning point in his career.

On tour in France, Dailey had a chance meeting with a sculptor who heard his set in the tiny French village he was playing in that night. The sculptor told Dailey “All the gold is being take from our world. They take it all to use in technological devices that are supposed to help us communicate. The gold is disappearing, hidden in phones and computers that only leave us feeling more alone, separated and disconnected. When I heard you tonight through the walls of my workshop, I heard real communication. I heard you. You are a communicator.” He then sculpted and gifted Will a sculpture of a man with a gold nugget on his shoe called “The Golden Walker,” and tasked Dailey with the roll of being a protector of the gold, and to keep communicating through music.

Since that midnight meeting in France, Dailey has spent many nights lying awake wondering about communication and connectivity. We are told we are disconnected. Maybe we are just over connected in the wrong ways? He gets to thinking that there may be nobody in the world who needs to hear one of his songs, but then is reminded of the sculptors call for true connection, and the great human pay-off of being in a live concert venue or recording studio full of people engaging in one moment together, and that is where Golden Walker came from. “Connection, itself, and the amount of connecting cannot be the end goal any longer,” says Dailey.  “There is too much loneliness for that to be true. Nurturing and strengthening the important connections we have is a way forward -- the emotional economy of the future.”

Golden Walker will be available as a special edition 180 gram vinyl that includes a secret track and a playable postcard (flexi-disk vinyl), standard 180 gram vinyl LP, CD and digitally. All formats are available for pre-order HERE.

Brandy Zdan Releases New Single "I Want Your Trouble" + New Album Announcement

BRANDY ZDAN RELEASES HER NEW SINGLE “I WANT YOUR TROUBLE”
 + ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM SECRETEAR
OUT MAY 11 ON TALLEST MAN RECORDS

Brandy Zdan I want Your Troubls

LISTEN TO “I WANT YOUR TROUBLE: HERE

“hard-rocking new single” - GUITAR WORLD

Tallest Man Records is excited to announce the release of the new single “I Want Your Trouble” from Nashville’s Brandy Zdan from her forthcoming album Secretear, out May 11.

This song started in a very modern day and millennial fashion, in a text message. Early on in their courtship,  Zdan received a text from her now husband, Aaron Haynes (of The Texas Gentlemen),  saying “I WANT YOUR TROUBLE.” Zdan immediately knew she had to turn that text into a song, and not just any song, but a kick you over one at that. Haynes and Zdan wrote the song together and Haynes plays drums on the track.

Secretear Zdan’s sophomore album, is a Spanish word for a confidential conversation or secret. It was co-produced by Zdan and Teddy Morgan (John Oates, Trace Adkins, Carl Broemel), featuring a rhythm section comprised of Haynes on drums and My Morning Jacket’s Tom Blankenship on bass and Carl Broemel on pedal steel and guitar. These new songs see Zdan stepping back into her rock roots and the music she grew up on (60’s and 70’s rock n roll). For this album Zdan shed a lot of her personal skin and musical past, letting go of those things that held her back from being the best version of herself. She really put everything on the line for this record and gave all of herself, so much so that she blew out her voice and ran her fingers raw from playing guitar the first week of recording.

Zdan who now calls Nashville home is a native of Canada. She has honed her craft  writing mature indie-rock and pop songs with hauntingly gorgeous melodies and edgy arrangements, in Winnipeg as half of the critically acclaimed gothic folk/roots duo Twilight Hotel. The duo went on to have two albums nominated for prestigious Juno Awards. Upon coming to the U.S. Zdan landed in Austin, joining the all-girl Americana outfit, The Trishas, where she acted as lead guitarist and utility player (lap steel, accordion), before moving on to a solo career. To support this new single Zdan just finished up a tour  with Doyle Bramhall, and will head out on the road with Buddy Guy later this month.

LETHAL AMOUNTS PRESENTS : THE DIVINE BALL - A TRIBUTE TO DIVINE 3/31 @ THE EL REY

LETHAL AMOUNTS PRESENTS SEX CELLS : THE DIVINE BALL MARCH 31st AT THE EL REY

lethal-amounts-sex-cells-divine-ball.png

“ the Goddess of Gross, the Punk Elephant, the Big Bad Mama of the Midnight Movies... [and] a Miss Piggy for the blissfully deprave.” - People Magazine on Divine

Lethal Amounts in conjunction with Goldenvoice, is excited to announce the Sex Cells Divine Ball, a tribute to the legendary pop culture icon Divine. Bold, brassy and deliciously vile,  Harris Glenn Milstead’s drag persona Divine was the muse of legendary filmmaker John Waters. Divine was the star of Waters’ most celebrated and career defining early films including Female Trouble, Polyester, and Pink Flamingos which went on to be a hit in the U.S. midnight movie circuit, becoming a cult classic and establishing Divine's fame within the American counterculture.

In addition to film, Divine made a career in disco releasing several successful albums and singles. She went on to perform in plays, and even developed her own stage show. Divine is probably best known for playing not one but two roles in John Waters’ most popular and most mainstream film Hairspray. Edna Turnblad, the loving mother of the lead character Tracy; the second, that of the racist television station owner Arvin Hodgepile.

Divine died in 1988 but her legacy is ever present through her films, her influence on artists and musicians, and the even the Disney villain Ursula from The Little Mermaid is based on her. She remains an icon and role model for outsiders and underdogs, and created the blueprint for the body positive movement making her the perfect centerpiece for Sex Cells, the monthly club night created by Lethal Amounts owner Danny Fuentes, that attracts a wide array of colorful characters due to the openness of the environment, and creative freedom Fuentes and his team foster and encourage. “I saw Pink Flamingos when I was thirteen,” says Fuentes. “I was probably far too young to watch it. It made me feel an array of emotions from scared to demoralized,  to laughing out loud, but most importantly in changed my life and put me on the course for what I am doing now, assaulting people’s senses.”

“Sex Cells is an open place for each individual who can be who he wants to be, no matter of age, race, gender, sexuality. Values I always defended and are more precious than ever.” -Miss Kittin

The night will feature Lethal Amounts’ resident DJ’s Matthew Pernicano and Danny Lethal, and a “Divine” contest with a $500 cash prize for the “Best Divine.” The night will feature celebrity judge Mink Stole with more to be announced in the coming weeks.

Let That Money Talk, a song by BEGINNERS on Spotify

Los Angeles band Beginners are excited to announce the release of their new single “Let That Money Talk.” Available today worldwide on all major digital services. Beginners, the electro pop band driven by live instrumentation was created by songwriter Samantha Barbera to dirty up and bring some danger back into pop music.

“Sun soaked indie pop [with] rousing lyrics rooted in the rough edges of reality.” - Interview Magazine

“Let That Money Talk”  is the seductive new single off their forthcoming album CREAM, due out this summer. Samantha explains, “I spent a shocking amount of 2017 inside of Jumbo's Clown Room, an iconic LA strip club.  Somehow the night always led me back there; often with a girl who I was desperately infatuated with.  It was exhilarating and tortuous spending night after night in such a sexually charged environment, yet always winding up alone.  I wrote ‘Let That Money Talk’ after one of these long nights.  There was a metaphoric magic between the unrequited love of customer to dancer, and myself to this girl.  Always given just enough to want more.”

“Sonic gold... a blissfully coruscating dance track that should be on your pool party playlists right now.” - Nerdist

The warm genial synths and undeniable catchiness Beginners embody has lead to radio play on some of the county’s top alternative stations like Portland’s KNRK, Seattle’s the End, San Francisco’s Live 105, and Los Angeles station KROQ and Alt. 987. Their music has also been heard on numerous shows on networks such as the CW, HBO, FOX, ABC, MTV etc. and garnered over 10 million Spotify streams.

NASHVILLE'S GRAMMY AWARD WINNING PRODUCER FEMKE RELEASES "4 LETTER WORDS"

GRAMMY AWARD WINNING COMPOSER FEMKE RELEASES HER NEW SINGLE “4 LETTER WORDS”

4 Letter Words - Album Art_preview.jpeg

Four Letter Words, a song by Femke on Spotify

Nashville’s Femke has released her latest single “4 Letter Words” via her label LV Music.

A native of the Netherlands and a current resident of Nashville, Femke Weidema who releases music as Femke, wears a lot of creative hats. She is a songwriter, a composer, a producer, an artist and artist community president.  She has won the ASCAP Harold Adamson award, studied with Lin Manual Miranda for a short summer at Chicago’s Northwestern University with the Johnny Mercer Foundation, worked for Richard Gibbs and Don Grusin while also working at Hans Zimmer’s Prestigious Remote Control studios in Los Angeles, and is the recipient of a Latin Grammy. As a musician she sang with Blink 182’s Mark Hoppus on the soundtrack for Fired Up, played accordion on several indie movies, played guitar and programmed on ABC’s 10 Things I Hate About You and scored a season of Disney’s Binny Under Geist.  She is also the subject of the Dutch Documentary series Don't Dream, Do!,  about her success as a producer in Nashville.

Femke has a studio in Nashville at Liz Rose Music, that is the creative hub for all of her music endeavors, including the artist community she started in the fall called LV Music.  The community was designed to have a very collective and family feel to what they do and the deals are structure to be very artist friendly. The artists on the roster include Nashville’s LIEZA, Scotland’s Dancing on Tables and the UK’s Belle Mt , who collectively have accumulated millions of streams in the short six month period since the label started.

Femke is now adding herself to the LV  Music roster with the release of  “4 Letter Words.”  The song was written when Femke first moved to Nashville and was having a rough go of it. Aside from the loneliness that comes with moving to somewhere new, the place she was living in was flooded, so she was alone, displaced and in pretty low spirits. To add insult to injury, this all happened around Valentine’s Day. With love in the air and in the spotlight this time of year, Femke realized that LOVE was indeed a four letter word.  She started to ruminate on the fact that there are always opposites to each four letter word. Best, worst, love, lost and it was this idea that spawned the beautiful indie pop song “4 Letter Words.”

This year will see Femke continuing to write, record, produce and develop the artists on her label, in addition to releasing more of her own music.

RYAN INNES RELEASES “I NEED A LOVER” SINGLE + ANNOUNCES HIS DEBUT ALBUM ‘THE INBETWEEN’ OUT 3/23

RYAN INNES RELEASES “I NEED A LOVER” SINGLE + ANNOUNCES HIS DEBUT ALBUM THE INBETWEEN OUT 3/23

ryan-innes.jpg

I Need a Lover, a song by Ryan Innes on Spotify

Salt Lake City native Ryan Innes, and alumni of NBC’s The Voice is excited to announce the release of his debut full length album THE INBETWEEN- due out on March 23. The soulful and groove-filled first single “I Need a Lover” is out now worldwide. THE INBETWEEN is available for pre-order via Pledgemusic HERE.

Innes has been involved in and around music his entire life. He is a classically trained pianist who grew up singing in the Phoenix Boys Choir, and in local church groups. Although he enjoyed  performing in these settings, the traditional and classical music didn’t quite connect with him on an emotional level. It wasn’t until he was introduced to R&B that Innes began a deep and personal involvement with music that would begin to change his life.

The first album to catch his attention was a Boyz II Men album a friend gave him. “It was like nothing I’d experienced before,” said Innes. “These people really expressing their emotions through their music and voices. It was completely different than the stuff I had grown up with. It really opened my eyes to music’s ability to speak to the listener.”

Innes continued his connection and love for music but didn’t start to take a serious look at pursuing music as a career until his early 20’s when his life took a dramatic turn. He had just finished a Pre-Med degree only to realize he wasn’t passionate about science, while also going through a broken engagement. Music is what pulled him through, leading him to dive head first into at the music program at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, a city that has become a mecca of emerging talent, producing such artists as Imagine Dragons, Neon Trees and Lindsey Stirling.

Innes gained tremendous popularity in the local music scene in Provo, enabling him to quit his serving job at Red Robin and focus on music full time. In 2013 he took a leap and auditioned for NBC’s The Voice receiving a four-chair turn  from the judges. He chose to work with Usher and spent his time on the show being mentored by Usher and Pharrell Williams, the experience of which was like getting a crash course PHD in music and performing.

After The Voice, Innes returned to Utah to focus on writing what would become THE INBETWEEN, and co-writing with artists such as McKay Stevens and Nate Pyfer who co-wrote Kaskade’s 2014 grammy-nominated track “Atmosphere”.

Having observed that most songs are written either about the lowest parts of life, or the highest parts, he decided to focus on that gray area in between the two extremes. The emotional space  where we live most of our lives, and thus the concept for  –THE INBETWEEN -was born. The album as a whole takes the listener on an eclectic sonic journey through eleven expertly crafted songs. From New Orleans drenched horns on “The Same Night,” the ethereal electronics on “Show Me What’s Real,”  to the guttural percussion of “Crazy Wonderful” and the lush string orchestrations of “So Far Away,“ all layered with Innes’ distinctly emotive voice, proving that the in between of life is not so gray after all, but full of vibrant colors.

STAL RELEASES "THE CRIME"

STAL MAKES A POWERFUL STATEMENT ON RELATIONSHIPS IN OUR MODERN WORLD WITH THE RELEASE OF “THE CRIME”

stal - the crime art.jpeg

The Crime, a song by STAL on Spotify

The Parisien band STAL, who now call Los Angeles home are continuing their artistic metamorphosis with the release of “The Crime.”

STAL which  translates to “Steel” in more than a few languages, conjures feelings of coldness and evokes imagery of a modern, industrial life. But with this new material STAL mastermind Pierre Marie- Maulini strikes the perfect balance between the cold, sleek varnish aesthetic and something decidedly more harmonious and human. “The Crime” is a seductive R&B tinged track that mixes electronic beats with post rock/etherial guitars. It is the sound of where STAL is headed. Thematically the song observes our modern world as we adopt more isolationist and selfish behavior.  Hiding behind facades (online and in real life), taint the purity of love and intimacy, making our relationships the first victims of this behavior. This self-obsessed focus on our careers and personal development is “The Crime.”

“The Crime” is off the forthcoming EP Fresh Blood produced by Eric Palmquist (Night Riots, Bad Suns, Mutemath) out this spring,  The EP’s title track, released this past fall was praised as “ an energetic anthem likening their sexual energy to their lust for art,” by the Burning EarEQ Music praised “Fresh Blood” as a song “awash with uplifting, synths, full-on effervescent, attitude and pop-culture inspired lyrics. Both the catchy melody and eloquent, alluring lyrics have a tendency, to stick in the mind. The song is a definite crowd pleaser and, is styled with a sound of heartwarming pep and, verve. It is primed, for impending, festival domination.” Buzzbands said “the elastic bass line carries the song to its happy place. Vibe-wise, it’s not far from where “Saturdays = Youth” took us, and there are worse places to be.”

Maulini’s first project was a  post-rock effort influenced by Sigur Ros and Explosions in the Sky called A Red Season Shade. This caught the ear of local shoegaze icon Anthony Gonzalez. The two developed a close friendship and artistic bond, leading to Maulini being asked to come and play guitars and synths as part of M83 for the tour following the release of the critically acclaimed chart topping album, Saturdays = Youth. The band spent almost two years traveling around the world, opening for bands such as Kings Of Leon in the UK, Midnight Juggernauts in Australia, and headlining sold out shows all over America.

Maulini channeled everything he learned from touring with M83 into the creation of STAL, diving deeper into this new world of musical possibilities he had discovered,  all while incorporating his guitar centric roots. With STAL Maulini is always reaching for something bigger. His prior releases, the We Are Two EP and his debut full-length, Young Hearts (2015) led to touring with acts like Nothing But Thieves and Matt & Kim.

Upon his  move to the U.S Maulini struck up a fast friendship with producer Eric Palmquist who was a fan of STAL.  Maulini was quickly taken by Palmquist’s process and efficiency. Much in the same way that Gonzalez opened Maulini’s eyes to the level of professionalism needed to be successful on the road, Palmquist would instill in Maulini the need for diligence in the recording studio. After a short time, Maulini was impressed enough with their shared musical heritage and vision for what the project could be that he settled on Palmquist to help elevate his next batch of songs into new territory. The result was the five tracks that make up Fresh Blood. STAL will be headed to SXSW as an official showcasing artist and their next U.S. show is on 2/21 in Los Angeles at the Breaking Sound showcase at the Study.

I didn't get to go to Studio 54 in New York, but I did get to go to Blitz Club in London, Club Makeup in LA, and Motherfucker in New York.  I can tell you Danny Fuentes has put LA back on the Map with SEX CELLS. It's where all the Street Walking Cheetahs need to be !”

-  Nick Launay

(Producer :  Nick Cave Bad Seeds, Lou Reed, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Birthday Party, Gang of Four etc.)

For their one year anniversary, Lethal Amounts teamed up with Goldenvoice, a kindred spirit whose roots are forged in championing the underground, to bring their monthly club night Sex Cells to the El Rey Theatre. The club has re-energized the nightlife scene in Los Angeles with the imaginative curation and the colorful cast of characters, who attend each month.  This past year has seen Sex Cells host a wide variety of incredible artists and creative guests such as Sky Ferreira, Cold Cave, Nick Zinner (The Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Brooke Candy, Miss Kittin, Amanda LePore, Traci Lords, Prayers and even the original party monster, Michael Alig.

Sex Cells is the vision of Lethal Amounts owner and creative head Danny Fuentes. Sex Cells was started as a platform to showcase upcoming artists, and has developed a reputation for unexpected lineups, bringing together talent who normally would never share the same stage and providing a safe space to let your freak flag fly.

“It’s my kind of  playground... one for us fabulous freaks”  -Traci Lords

Sex Cells  packs out every month, attracting a wide array of characters due to the openness of the environment, and creative freedom Fuentes and his team foster and encourage. ”Sex Cells is the perfect outlet for creative people looking for more than just another club night,” says performer Amanda LePore. “It’s a place where anything can happen and it encourages people to go outside the lines. I couldn’t of asked for a better line up to be a part of.”

Wes Eisold of Cold Cave says "Sex Cells is total freedom. A post-everything universe of its own... what you spent your whole youth imagining what the night could be.” DJ Keoki, a veteran of the New York Club Kid scene said, “the world is losing its religion but LA has a new punk pope in Fuentes and Sex Cells is our church. Sex cells ....best  party this side of the fuckin apocalypse.”

BELLE MT RELEASES "LOVING YOU" VIA LV MUSIC

LONDON’S BELLE MT. RELEASES “LOVING YOU” VIA NASHVILLE LABEL LV MUSIC

Loving You Cover Art_preview.jpeg

Loving You, a song by Belle Mt on Spotify

“As guitar strums keeps us locked in a steady, pulsing rhythm, we are gently guided into a hazy, dreamy atmosphere of ever-building, passionate emotion, all grounded by Belmont’s piercing, present voice.” - Ones to Watch

London’s Belle Mt. has released “Loving You” through Nashville label LV Music. “Loving You” which is currently featured on the Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist is the follow up to “Hollow,” the second song musician Matt Belmont released under the Belle Mt. moniker. Upon its release “Hollow” jumped to over 500K streams on Spotify which lead to a very warm and packed welcome at on his first U.S. show at the Basement in Nashville this fall.

Belle Mt.  [Spoken; Belle-Mont] is a project that conceived during a withdrawal Matt took from public performances and releases between 2014 and 2016. During this time he dedicated himself to introspective periods of songwriting development, beginning a journey musically and geographically as he wrote, co-wrote and produced. His current sound started to develop on a self-imposed retreat to a friends’ unfinished family home to write in solitude at the foothills of the French alps. There, Matt started experimenting with sounds that mirrored his surroundings and the mountain views out of his makeshift studio window. The resulting sonics were ethereal productions for songs and developing the basis of a more cinematic and epic sound.

This new music made it’s way into the hands of Nashville based Grammy award winning producer and LV Music label owner; Femke Weidema. Femke’s production background includes being a collaborator of prolific film music composer Hans Zimmer, this leads to a deep knowledge of rich layering & the creation of dramatic soundscapes. The two found a very deep musical connection that has resulted in a partnership which brings a unique writing and production style to the project, steeped in layered ambience and depth. Working out of home project studios on a shoestring budget, 8 songs were written and demoed in that first 10 day trip, including the soul piercingly gorgeous “Loving You.” “It’s a song about human relationships,” says Matt. “love, turmoil and an admission that sometimes life hits us with emotional choices for which our actions carry a lot of weight of consequence. One of my most profound realizations was that we’re all just making it up as we go along and sometimes we fuck up by taking things for granted or saying things we instantly regret. The line ‘I can’t even help myself, so how do I handle someone else’ is a reflection on adulthood and the responsibility that comes with it; it’s definitely one of the most honest [songs] I’ve ever written.”

BOO RAY RELEASES ORIGINAL HOLIDAY DUET WITH ELIZABETH COOK

BOO RAY RELEASES AN ORIGINAL HOLIDAY DUET WITH ELIZABETH COOK “ALL STRUNG OUT LIKE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS”

BooRayECSingleFront_preview.jpeg

All Strung Out Like Christmas Lights, a song by Boo Ray, Elizabeth Cook on Spotify

“ ... the track was co-written by the two left-leaning singers, who swap harmonies over a boozy bedrock of electric guitar, pedal steel and barroom piano.”

- Rolling Stone Country

Nashville’s Boo Ray is kicking off the Holiday Season with the release of “All Strung Out Like Christmas Lights,” a duet with Elizabeth Cook. This the first in a series of vinyl duet releases Boo Ray is putting out through his partnership with Kindercore Vinyl.

Ray is a long time fan and admirer of Cooks so the song had to be just right.  “Elizabeth is inspiring, entertaining, self effacing and clever as hell," says Ray. "That Texas shuffle is a cool vehicle for the kind of good-natured cuttin' up and carrying on that Elizabeth and I have in common."

The limited edition colored vinyl is is available at select record stores and from Ray’s website. Side A features “All Strung Out Like Christmas Lights” and Side B features Boo Ray’s “I’ve Got the Jug.”

Ray had the privilege of christening the Athens, GA based pressing plant Kindercore Vinyl with the vinyl release of his critically album Sea of Lights this fall.  Produced by Noah Shain (Dead Sara, Escondido, Nikki Lane) the album was recorded at Shain’s White Buffalo studios in Los Angeles backed by an all star band that included Steve Ferrone on drums (Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers), Paul Ill on bass (Christina Aguilera, P!nk, Hole etc.), Sol Philcox-Littlefield (Jim Lauderdale, Jake Owen, Aaron Lewis) on guitar, Dallas Kruse (Justin Grennan, Skylar Stonestreet) on Hammond B3, Smith Curry (Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Billy Gibbons, Kid Rock) on pedal steel, and twin brothers Todd and Troy Gardner (Lenny Kravitz) on backup vocals. The all-star line up recorded 10 songs in two days live to tape, using the  same 2inch tape machine used to record Bob Dylan’s Nashville Skyline and several of Johnny Cash’s nashville albums.

Ray will be continuing the partnership with Kindercore Vinyl with more in the series of 7inch duets coming next year. The Kindercore research and development team have taken active steps toward renewable PVC replacements, seeking to be the first pressing plant to offer petroleum free phonograph records in the coming years. By Boo Ray being the first artist to work with Kindercore he is hoping to set an example, that taking steps towards preserving the planet, can be an simple as working with forward thinking companies like Kindercore.  If enough artists follow Ray’s lead, collectively they can make a huge impact on making the industry more sustainable.

To celebrate the Holiday vinyl release Ray will be supporting Stoney Larue at 3rd and Lindsley Saturday November 18th. More details on the show can be found HERE.

LIEZA RELEASES "DON'T MAKE ME DANCE" VIA LV MUSIC

LIEZA RELEASES “DON’T MAKE ME DANCE” VIA LV MUSIC

Dont-Make-Me-Dance.jpg

Don't Make Me Dance, a song by LIEZA on Spotify

“There is perhaps no better, more hauntingly appropriate time than the present moment for LIEZA’s assertive new single: Mixing colorful electro-pop music with vulnerable and reflective lyrics, ‘Don’t Make Me Dance’ ’is an evocative anthem of independence evoking physical and emotional security.”  – Atwood Magazine

Nashville artist LIEZA has released the powerful new single  “Don’t Make Me Dance,” via Nashville label LV Music.  LIEZA is the creation of singer songwriter Meghan Roner. Before settling in Nashville, Roner bounced around trying to find her musical and creative home in Texas, then London, settling and finding her creative mecca in Nashville and with Grammy award winning producer and songwriter Femke Weidema, who signed LIEZA to her label LV Music. These two women proved to be a powerful force. LIEZA wears her heart on her sleeve inserting her insecurities and raw emotions into her music, and Femke’s masterful production delicately blending beats with acoustic elements. Her last track “Eyeliner” was featured on Apple Music’s Breaking Singer/Songwriter, R3HAB’s Night Playlist and received reviews calling it  “a hypnotic track that slowly swells to first a bubbling ripple, then dreamy electronics and glitchy beats, all overlaid with LIEZA’s soaring vocal” by Born Music and the UK’s Female First Magazine compared her to female pop powerhouses BANKS and Lorde.

“Don’t Make Me Dance” was inspired by the #MeToo movement, and is song about empowerment. The song was written about a situation that nearly every person has experienced, an invasion of one’s personal space by an unwelcome intruder. With this song Roner hopes to inspire listeners to stand up for themselves in bad situations and find the strong sense of self-worth she has found through her music.

STAL RELEASES “FRESH BLOOD” SINGLE

STAL RELEASES “FRESH BLOOD” SINGLE

3_FRESH BLOOD.jpg

LISTEN TO FRESH BLOOD: HERE

Just in time for Halloween  STAL has released the incredible new track “Fresh Blood.” from the eponymous  EP due out next year.  STAL translates to steel in more than a few languages. As a result, the word conjures feelings of coldness and evokes imagery of a modern, industrial life. On the new EP  Pierre-Marie Maulini, the creative force behind  STAL,  strikes the perfect balance between the cold, sleek varnish of this picture and something decidedly more harmonious and human. With the help producer Eric Palmquist (Bad Suns, Mute Math, Night Riots) STAL was able to craft the perfect example of how one can keep their humanity in the age of twenty first century digitalism.

Get Fresh: http://smarturl.it/STALFreshBlood Official Video: https://youtu.be/YjeR8CNlTtw Live Studio Video: https://youtu.be/0f1rgDBjAeI Produced & Mixed by Eric Palmquist Mastered by John Greenham Stay fresh! -- https://www.instagram.com/stalofficial https://open.spotify.com/artist/0tmG4q8xPVP7NJV481rXi3 https://soundcloud.com/stalofficial https://www.facebook.com/STALofficial https://twitter.com/STALofficial https://www.stalmusic.com LYRICS: I’m filled with fresh blood I shoot like John Wayne I scream like Kurt Cobain I walk like Kate Moss Disco like Diana Ross I believe in you I believe in me too A new lease on life We can get it, get it, get it yeah Hands on the wheel I’m feeling alive Oh oh oh oh oh I’m filled with fresh blood Oh oh oh oh oh I’m filled with fresh blood Sexual as Marvin Gaye A fool like Kanye Pop as Madonna Royal as Diana A hungry wolf In the empty streets On the hunt While the city sleeps Not about to let the moment pass I’m going for the kill Sink my teeth in I’m feeling alive I’m clutch like M.J I rock like Presley

Maulinin got his start very young and his first project was a  post-rock effort influenced by Sigur Ros and Explosions in the Sky called A Red Season Shade. The project lead to him developing a close friendship with local shoegaze icon Anthony Gonzalez. Gonzalez asked Pierre him to come and play guitars and synths as part of M83 for the tour following the release of their fifth album Saturdays = Youth. The band spent almost 2 years traveling around the world, opening for bands such as Kings Of Leon in the UK or Midnight Juggernauts in Australia, and of course headlining sold out shows all over America.

Touring with M83  is where Maulini was first exposed to the world of synths, keyboards and other electronic elements that would soon be so prevalent in the music he would create. Upon his return home from the tour, Maulini wanted to delve deeper into this new world of musical possibilities he had discovered. Still, Maulini hadn’t forgotten his roots and a lot of the guitar work on which he first made a name for himself would remain integral to the new songs he was writing. Post rock is “all about atmosphere” says Maulini, who pulling on his background in the genre, strives to bring an air degree of epicness into his new work. Maulini released first experimental demos from STAL in 2011, and since then release and  EP, We Are Two (2012), and his debut full-length, Young Hearts (2015). The releases were followed  by touring with acts like Nothing But Thieves and Matt & Kim.

Maulini took a huge leap faith this year relocating from Paris to Los Angeles, and the location and cultural shift is ever present in the new material. Palmquist who was a fan of STAL, bonded with  Maulini  immediately over their shared love of Emo. Working with Palmquist would instilled in Maulini the need for diligence in the recording studio. Prior recordings for STAL were a very straightforward process, with a great deal of spontaneity and clumsiness, for Fresh Blood there were countless hours of pre-production. The initial days in the studio consisted solely of listening to the artist and producer’s greatest influences, as well as, Top 40 pop and rock. This led to an extended demoing session that saw their creative direction pulled in many different ways before the two settled on a final vision for the EP. Lyrically, Fresh Blood shows just how much maturity Maulini has gained over the past few years. While he speaks largely to the true and simple happiness one can find in life, love and hope, there is certainly a new level of profundity to his lyrics.

BOO RAY RELEASES “ISLANDS IN THE STREAM”DUET WITH LILLY WINWOOD TO PAY TRIBUTE TO KENNY ROGERS

BOO RAY RELEASES “ISLANDS IN THE STREAM” DUET WITH LILLY WINWOOD TO PAY TRIBUTE TO KENNY ROGERS

BooRay&LillyWinwoodCover2.jpg

Islands in the Stream, a song by Boo Ray, Lilly Winwood on Spotify

Nashville’s Boo Ray has teamed up with Lilly Winwood to pay tribute to the great Kenny Rogers as he continues his “Farewell Tour,” with their cover of the classic “Islands in the Stream.”  This is a sneak peak into the 7inch duet series Ray is gearing up to release in partnership with Kindercore Vinyl later this year.

“As a kid I was way into the Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton version of the song,” says Ray. “Earlier this year Lilly Winwood & I were nostalgically digging the song and discovered The Bee Gees wrote it. We gone and went down the Barry, Robin & Maurice Gibb rabbit-hole and landed on the soundtrack from “Grease”... it’s just a blast and we had to record it. I think we got kind of a Muscle Shoals take on it.”

Ray who christened the Kindercore pressing plant with the vinyl release of his album Sea of Lights last month is excited for the upcoming duets series, that in addition to Lilly Winwood features collaborations with Elizabeth Cook and celebrity chef Sean Brock. Kindercore is a unique new pressing plant with a mission to modernize the current pressing process by making it more sustainable. The Kindercore research and development team have taken active steps toward renewable PVC replacements, seeking to be the first pressing plant to offer petroleum free phonograph records in the coming years. By Boo Ray being the first artist to work with Kindercore he is hoping to set an example for that taking steps towards preserving the planet, can be an simple as working with forward thinking companies like Kindercore.  If enough artists follow Boo’s lead collectively they can make a huge impact on making the industry more sustainable.

“....his live performances make country music lovers of people who hate twang.”  - Pop Matters

Following the path of great southern troubadours Boo Ray forged & honed his sound on the road in South Georgia honky-tonks, Gulf Coast jukes, Nashville nightclubs & Los Angeles songwriter joints. Hailing from the mountains of Western North Carolina and now spending equal parts time in Nashville, Tennessee; Los Angeles, California; and Athens, Georgia.

While living in LA, Ray struck up a fast friendship and found a kindred spirit in producer  Noah Shain (Dead Sara, Escondido, Nikki Lane). The two collaborated on a few tracks that became Ray’s 2010 album, Bad News Travels Fast and reunited to create Sea of Lights. The album was  recorded Shain’s White Buffalo studios in Los Angeles backed by an all star band that included Steve Ferrone on drums (Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers), Paul Ill on bass (Christina Aguilera, P!nk, Hole etc.), Sol Philcox-Littlefield (Jim Lauderdale, Jake Owen, Aaron Lewis) on guitar, Dallas Kruse (Justin Grennan, Skylar Stonestreet) on Hammond B3, Smith Curry (Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Billy Gibbons, Kid Rock) on pedal steel, and twin brothers Todd and Troy Gardner (Lenny Kravitz) on backup vocals. The all-star line up recorded 10 songs in two days live to tape, using the  same 2inch tape machine used to record Bob Dylan’s Nashville Skyline and several of Johnny Cash’s nashville albums.

“I’ve had it on day and night, soaking up the electric guitar solos and Ray’s gritty, grinning vocal phrasing.” - Uproxx (on Sea of Lights)

The sessions for Sea of Lights were the musical equivalent of getting a PHD from an Ivy League university,  the knowledge from which Ray has channeled into the duet sessions. Next up is an original Holiday song with Elizabeth Cook that will be pressed to special edition color vinyl.

“As it is, “Sea Of Lights” is something special, a neatly constructed song with aspirational, but realistic lyrics about the vicissitudes of the artist’s life.”

ANDREW MCKEAG ANNOUNCES HIS SOLO DEBUT

ANDREW MCKEAG OF THE PRESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES ANNOUNCES THE RELEASE OF HIS SOLO DEBUT THE ANDREW MCKEAG BAND

Andrew McKeag Band

The San Diego based esteemed guitar player and songwriter, Andrew McKeag, who has devoted his entire life to music has brought his lifelong love affair with rock n roll into his self-titled debut album, The Andrew McKeag Band due out on 11/17 . “This is an album of firsts for me,” says McKeag, “ first time I’ve used my name as the name of the band, first record I made after moving back to Southern California from Seattle in 2014 and a first step of sorts, in establishing my own creative world after years of playing with The Presidents Of The USA.”

If anybody can be the torchbearer for rock and roll it’s Andrew.  He’s performed with Bo Diddley and toured with Javier Escovedo. He  maintains his long-running and storied Seattle seventies rock cover band 70 Proof, which has boasted appearances from the likes of Duff McKagan as well as members of Mother Love Bone, Supersuckers, and more. He has played with a slew of bands up and down the West Coast, namelyShuggie, Hard Roller, Uncle Joe’s Big Ol’ Driver, and currently plays with San Diego’s The Dirty Sweet and Lady Dottie & The Diamonds. In 2005 McKeag joined the multi-platinum iconic Seattle luminaries The Presidents Of The United States of America. He toured everywhere with the band and remained integral to 2008’s critically acclaimed These Are the Good Times People and Kudos to You!  In the fall of 2016, he dove headfirst into penning ideas for what would become the Andrew McKeag Band.

In order to capture this vision, McKeag enlisted the talents of drummer Charlie George and bassist John Krylow and recorded with producer Scott Hackwith [The Ramones] in downtown Los Angeles at Cassette Recordings. Immediately, they tapped into an indescribable and inimitable chemistry.

The album kicks off with a wiry riff from the album opener ”This Old Lie.”  “I wanted to start the record off with this,” says MCkeag, “because it’s where your head’s at when you’re trying to start over. That’s what I was writing about.”

Songs from the album sought inspiration from interesting places like  “Love & Respect,” whose clever intensity is drawn from Facebook rants by a fascinating character who McKeag  describes as “sitting in an apartment smoking weed and sharing videos of great punk and rock ‘n’ roll all day.”

McKeag enlisted a large group of A-list guests, that include  Zander Schloss [Circle Jerks/Joe Strummer/Thelonius Monster] who can be heard on “Ordinary Fool,” guitar legends—Brad Whitford of Aerosmith and Zakk Wylde of Ozzy Osbourne, Black Label Society, and Zakk Sabbath, who are featured on a searing cover Mountain’s “Never In My Life,” and Ty Bailie [Katy Perry] provides keyboards throughout the album.

Pre-orders for The Andrew McKeag Band include a variety of packages offering CD’s, vinyl, t-shirts and signed merchandise, to some incredibly unique offerings from custom guitar pedals made for the AMB by Satellite Amps in San Diego, to private guitar lessons with Andrew, to a items from Andrew’s personal archive from his years with the Presidents Of The United States. DESI VALENTINE RELEASES  “MY WORST ENEMY” SINGLE  + ANNOUNCES TOUR DATES WITH VINTAGE TROUBLE

DESI VALENTINE RELEASES  “MY WORST ENEMY” SINGLE  + ANNOUNCES TOUR DATES WITH VINTAGE TROUBLE

DesiValentine_MyWorstEnemy_Artwork_.jpg

My Worst Enemy, a song by Desi Valentine on Spotify

"Both emotionally impassioned and irresistibly danceable, the London-born, LA transplant’s  new single 'My Worst Enemy' is a window into the tumultuous ups and downs of a rising artist." - Ones to Watch

Los Angeles based artist Desi Valentine  has released the stellar dance inducing “My Worst Enemy” single that that gives a stylistic wink to retro soul.  When going into the studio to collaborate with Morgan Taylor Reid on the song the two asked themselves “what would Nina Simone do in this day and age?” says Valentine.” A throwback sound like this is about picking the right elements, as less is more. We had the most fun tracking the vocals. I get to wail on this one! My hope is that people feel the emotion in the lyrics.”

Valentine  is a recording artist, singer, and songwriter with a modern mind and a timeless sound. Desi wears a balanced medley of enticing contradictions: he’s traditional, and he’s innovative. He’s peaceful, and he’s disruptive. He’s relatable to all, but comparable to none. His voice is both velvet and smoke.

“My Worst Enemy” was written about unrequited desire and what it’s like to feel like you don’t have control over yourself. The track was inspired by the time in Desi’s career where he had a song on the top of the digital charts but was struggling to make rent - and the juxtaposition of being at rock bottom while experiencing major success.  The song that catapulted Desi to the top of the digital charts  was “Fate Don’t Know You.” The song was featured in last years season finale on the hit show Suits on the USA Network, debuted on the Spotify Viral 50 chart in the UK, Canada, Australia, Sweden and the Netherlands. On Shazam the song debuted in the Top 20 on the Future Hits charts in the U.S., U.K. Australia and in the top 100 in the Global chart, and on iTunes the track debuted in the Top 100 in the UK.

Growing up in London, Desi honed his musical chops performing on the West End and working as a backup vocalist for Sir Elton John and Leona Lewis. Upon moving to Los Angeles, Desi dove deep into songwriting and his songs started to appear on notable film/TV programs such as Daredevil (Netflix),  Lucifer (FOX)  Queen Sugar (OWN) A Girlfriends Guide to Divorce (BRAVO), as well as advertising campaigns with FitBit, Toyota and NY&CO.  Despite becoming a master songwriter, it’s performing and connecting with a live audience that is Desi’s first true love. Desi has played festivals such as SXSW and Bumbershoot,  last year supported Andra Day on her U.S. tour and will be supporting Vintage Trouble in the U.S. this fall.
