LETHAL AMOUNTS PRESENTS SEX CELLS - THE TOUR WITH MARC ALMOND & HERCULES AND THE LOVE AFFAIR

Los Angeles art gallery and promoter Lethal Amounts will be taking their signature club night - Sex Cells on the road this fall. Marc Almond of Soft Cell will be returning to the club stage as a headliner after making his debut in February on the club’s second anniversary. This tour is particularly special since Sex Cells was created in homage to the lurid and seedy lyrics of Almond’s band. The infamous club name is a combination of Soft Cell and their song “Sex Dwarf” which describes a dominatrix in a Rolls Royce, perfectly embodying the regular cast of characters that have come to define the night.

Sex Cells, which got its start in Los Angeles has become a clubhouse for some of LA’s most eccentric and creative people to get decked out and turn heads with talented line-ups and music.  As with most things Lethal Amounts, the club night has its foot in the past and in the future, paying homage to the originators of dance music while showcasing modern-day Electro, Techno and Indie Dance artists.

“Danny’s Sex Cells party was simply out of this world, sensational. It was a great thrill to play in LA to such an amazing, beautiful crowd. Unforgettable and mind-blowing. We can’t wait to come over again soon.”

- MARC ALMOND

Joining Marc Almond on all he dates is Hercules and The Love Affair performing a DJ set.  Additional performers on select dates include TR/ST, Dita VonTeese, Plack Blague  and more.

“It’s my kind of  playground...one for us fabulous freaks”  - Traci Lords

‘Sex Cells is total freedom. A post-everything universe of its own... what you spent your whole youth imagining what the night could be.” - Wes Eisold of Cold Cave

LETHAL AMOUNTS PRESENTS : THE DIVINE BALL - A TRIBUTE TO DIVINE 3/31 @ THE EL REY

LETHAL AMOUNTS PRESENTS SEX CELLS : THE DIVINE BALL MARCH 31st AT THE EL REY

“ the Goddess of Gross, the Punk Elephant, the Big Bad Mama of the Midnight Movies... [and] a Miss Piggy for the blissfully deprave.” - People Magazine on Divine

Lethal Amounts in conjunction with Goldenvoice, is excited to announce the Sex Cells Divine Ball, a tribute to the legendary pop culture icon Divine. Bold, brassy and deliciously vile,  Harris Glenn Milstead’s drag persona Divine was the muse of legendary filmmaker John Waters. Divine was the star of Waters’ most celebrated and career defining early films including Female Trouble, Polyester, and Pink Flamingos which went on to be a hit in the U.S. midnight movie circuit, becoming a cult classic and establishing Divine's fame within the American counterculture.

In addition to film, Divine made a career in disco releasing several successful albums and singles. She went on to perform in plays, and even developed her own stage show. Divine is probably best known for playing not one but two roles in John Waters’ most popular and most mainstream film Hairspray. Edna Turnblad, the loving mother of the lead character Tracy; the second, that of the racist television station owner Arvin Hodgepile.

Divine died in 1988 but her legacy is ever present through her films, her influence on artists and musicians, and the even the Disney villain Ursula from The Little Mermaid is based on her. She remains an icon and role model for outsiders and underdogs, and created the blueprint for the body positive movement making her the perfect centerpiece for Sex Cells, the monthly club night created by Lethal Amounts owner Danny Fuentes, that attracts a wide array of colorful characters due to the openness of the environment, and creative freedom Fuentes and his team foster and encourage. “I saw Pink Flamingos when I was thirteen,” says Fuentes. “I was probably far too young to watch it. It made me feel an array of emotions from scared to demoralized,  to laughing out loud, but most importantly in changed my life and put me on the course for what I am doing now, assaulting people’s senses.”

“Sex Cells is an open place for each individual who can be who he wants to be, no matter of age, race, gender, sexuality. Values I always defended and are more precious than ever.” -Miss Kittin

The night will feature Lethal Amounts’ resident DJ’s Matthew Pernicano and Danny Lethal, and a “Divine” contest with a $500 cash prize for the “Best Divine.” The night will feature celebrity judge Mink Stole with more to be announced in the coming weeks.
