LETHAL AMOUNTS PRESENTS SEX CELLS - THE TOUR WITH MARC ALMOND & HERCULES AND THE LOVE AFFAIR

LETHAL AMOUNTS PRESENTS SEX CELLS - THE TOUR WITH MARC ALMOND & HERCULES AND THE LOVE AFFAIR

SU1A4587.jpg

Los Angeles art gallery and promoter Lethal Amounts will be taking their signature club night - Sex Cells on the road this fall. Marc Almond of Soft Cell will be returning to the club stage as a headliner after making his debut in February on the club’s second anniversary. This tour is particularly special since Sex Cells was created in homage to the lurid and seedy lyrics of Almond’s band. The infamous club name is a combination of Soft Cell and their song “Sex Dwarf” which describes a dominatrix in a Rolls Royce, perfectly embodying the regular cast of characters that have come to define the night.

Sex Cells, which got its start in Los Angeles has become a clubhouse for some of LA’s most eccentric and creative people to get decked out and turn heads with talented line-ups and music.  As with most things Lethal Amounts, the club night has its foot in the past and in the future, paying homage to the originators of dance music while showcasing modern-day Electro, Techno and Indie Dance artists.

“Danny’s Sex Cells party was simply out of this world, sensational. It was a great thrill to play in LA to such an amazing, beautiful crowd. Unforgettable and mind-blowing. We can’t wait to come over again soon.”

- MARC ALMOND

Joining Marc Almond on all he dates is Hercules and The Love Affair performing a DJ set.  Additional performers on select dates include TR/ST, Dita VonTeese, Plack Blague  and more.

“It’s my kind of  playground...one for us fabulous freaks”  - Traci Lords

‘Sex Cells is total freedom. A post-everything universe of its own... what you spent your whole youth imagining what the night could be.” - Wes Eisold of Cold Cave

KEZAR RELEASES THEIR DEBUT SELF-TITLED EP

KEZAR RELEASES THEIR DEBUT SELF-TITLED EP

Kezar_EP_Cover.jpg

Indie pop band Kezar is excited to announce the release of their debut self-titled EP out everywhere today. Frontman Jack Mosabcher said of the EP “every song on it is so near and dear to my heart - a dream come true, really. My hope it is fairly simple: that it becomes a part of the soundtrack of your summer and adds joy and love to everything that you do.”

The danceable, hook-heavy number opens with their infectious debut “Tell Me (It’s Not Love),” produced by K-Kov (Keith Urban, Justin Timberlake) that has now been streamed over 845K times and was included in Spotify’s official Love Pop and Young & Free playlists. The track’s video was also inspired by the beautiful aesthetic of the classic tale Pride & Prejudice

“Feelings” was the very first song penned for the project. It will always be a milestone in frontman Jack Mosbacher’s life who, in just a few days, found a new sound, attitude and chapter in his life. “It’s a song about a woman who is totally in control, from a man’s perspective - she is confident and fearless…[it’s] an anthem for empowerment and the unmatchable strength of women." Fresh track “Ooh La La” started as a fun tinkering in the studio and turned into what frontman Jack Mosbacher calls an epic and unapologetic “Stadium Reggae” summer track.

“(Tell Me) It’s Not Love,” [is] an unmistakably radio-ready pop bop. Blending soulful vocals with a dazzling array of modern indie-pop elements, it’s an electric debut destined for major attention. We’re seeing KEZAR in bright lights on famous marquees. We’re hearing his neon anthems on Top 40. We’re thinking he just carved himself a well-deserved spot in the wild world of pop stardom.”  The Music Mermaid

At the helm of the band is seasoned musician Jack Mosbacher, the mastermind behind Kezar. He comes from a strong soul background and the more you listen to each cleverly crafted beat and infectious hook, the more you recognize it as the backbone of his newfound signature pop style. Mosbacher also has a deep admiration and respect for the artists that came before him. Using state-of-the-art synthesizer technology, he and the producers added throwback elements from hip-hop’s glory days, like the big 808 drum machines on Run-DMC and NWA records and stacked backing vocals and bass synths reminiscent of the 2000’s Hyphy Movement – homages to Mac Dre, Mistah F.A.B., Keak da Sneak, and Traxamillion. When choosing a name for this project, Mosbacher wanted to stay true to his hometown of San Francisco by naming it after Kezar Stadium in the Haight-Ashbury district. Choosing the original home of the 49ers and a now music venue that played host to music legends such as Led Zeppelin, Santana and The Grateful Dead, seemed like the perfect segway into a new era of his career while staying true to his roots.

“The song is the perfect combination of soul and modern pop” Affinity Magazine (on “Let’s Talk About You”)

COOPER & GATLIN RELEASE THE ANTHEM OF THE SUMMER "ON YOUR MIND"

COOPER & GATLIN RELEASE THE ANTHEM OF SUMMER “ON YOUR MIND”

Cooper-Gatlin Fragile-199.jpg

Powerhouse brother-sister pop duo Cooper & Gatlin have released their catchy and relatable summer anthem “On Your Mind” out everywhere today. The pair was inspired to pen this tune after Gatlin’s self-described fantasy turned flatline dating experience. As frustrating as the situation was, it served as the perfect lyrical inspiration. Hurt by this guy’s lack of devotion, she knew she was worth more than being put on anyone’s back burner. “On Your Mind became our  ‘buck up, or butt out’ anthem,” the pair said.

“The world is loud + sometimes you need an excuse to slow down. “Fragile” gives you a peaceful moment alone–so go ahead, hit repeat a few times.” -Idobi Radio (on “Fragile”)

Their previous release “Fragile,” a raw, beautiful track about vulnerability and daring to be authentic, was released to warm praise from fans and the media alike. The track’s success includes over 2 million streams and an incredible video featuring NBC's World of Dance stars Sean Lew and Kaycee Rice. It came hot on the heels of their debut single “Break,” another rhythmic track about the stoic face you put on in front of ex- lovers. Upon its release the track was featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday U.S. playlist and the video has now amassed over 628K views. Ultra Records artist Tep No also produced a remix of the track that he even called “one of the best remixes I've made.”

The two have the brilliant ability to blend elements of both acoustic and electronic elements seamlessly into their music. They draw you in with their lush harmonies, tight melodies and playful brother-sister dynamic. They truly found their sound when the pair’s family relocated to Los Angeles in 2014 from their hometown of Franklin, Tennessee. They’ve spent the past several years honing their craft as songwriters and musicians by forging their wide array of influences together to create a sound uniquely their own. They recently wrote a batch of new left-of-center pop songs that are universal and uplifting in delivery, but also deeply personal.

“There is an element of Cooper & Gatlin’s dynamic as a duo that instantly resonates with listeners – making you feel as if you’ve known them forever when, in fact, they’ve only just released their third single. The Tennessee born, LA based, brother-sister alternative-pop team captivate their audience with their fresh and spirited ability to connect through storytelling in their music that stems from a powerful mutual understanding.” -Heirwaves

ADULT(ED) WITH MEGAN NICOLE LAUNCHES EPISODE SEVEN: WINE

ADULT(ED) WITH MEGAN NICOLE LAUNCHES EPISODE SEVEN: WINE

Megan_Nicole_adulted_wine.jpg

Megan Nicole, in conjunction with Jeenyus Entertainment, has launched the seventh episode of her brand new YouTube show Adult(ed). This episode is all about wine.

In this episode, Megan and her friend Rydel Lynch are joined by sommelier Dr. Ryan Hess who has a Ph.D. in viticulture and enology and is the beverage director for Sprout LA. Hess starts the episode with the goal of making wine consumption more accessible and enjoyable, in particular for Lynch who is a wine skeptic and feels that she is missing out on a lot of social time with friends and family due to her lack of enthusiasm for wine.

Hess walks the two women through the basics of tasting and enjoying wine, from why certain glasses are shaped the way they are, to why wines are named the way they are, like Savginon Blanc ‘translating to the savage grape,’ due to the brightness of its acidity. Dr. Hess gives some insightful advice for shopping for wine and how the occasion should dictate the cost, in addition to how packaging and the weight of the bottle is oftentimes an indicator of the quality of the wine. The episode sees both Rydel and Megan, become exponentially more confident in their abilities to enjoy and shop for wine. See Megan’s key takeaways from the episode HERE

ADULT(ED) EPISODE SEVEN: WATCH HERE

This past year, Megan’s life really catapulted from adolescence to adulthood, with her getting married, buying her first home and become a pet parent. These rapid changes left her a little overwhelmed and wishing she had a sort of handbook which was the inspiration for the concept of Adult(ed).

In this 10-episode season, Megan, along with a guest tackle a new subject with the help of an expert on the topic. Fan feedback from the first five episodes has been incredible thus far. From throwing a fancy dinner party and working out anywhere to figuring out taxes, Megan hopes viewers will learn something new and will leave each episode feeling confident about taking action to live a more positive adult life.

SPEELBURG RELEASES “OXY COTTON CANDY”

SPEELBURG RELEASES “OXY COTTON CANDY”

Oxy Cotton Candy.jpg

“Speelburg...is a force to be reckoned with.” - Pigeons & Planes

Just in time for the 4th of July Speelburg has released his cheeky yet cheery song of the summer ‘Oxy Cotton Candy.”  The Belgian-American Brighton, UK based artist spent the last two years making “pop music for important people,” and "Oxy Cotton Candy”  is the first single from the body of work created in those sessions. These new songs are a departure from his previous releases, offering a sunnier musical disposition that puts a spotlight on Speelburg mastermind Noah Sacré’s sharp wit and unique sense of humor. The track is fantastically intricate and slyly brilliant, drawing listeners into Speelburg’s pleasantly oddball world with jangly hooks and effervescent choruses.

“..... that killer falsetto, playfully arranged guitars and synths and melodies that can evoke Connan Mockasin one moment, and Father John Misty or ‘The Bay’-era Metronomy the next.”

 - VICE on "Screener Season”(the last single)

When choosing a name for the project, Sacré, who has a deep love of cinema,  decided that if he was going to be a creative and put those creations out into the world he should set the bar high. So he aimed for genius level, naming the project Speelburg, to keep a nice and slightly uncomfortable level of pressure oh his shoulders, in the hopes that someday he will live up to the name.  Speelburg’s oddball view of the world makes its way into all of his work from his songs named after famous people like “Gwyneth Paltrow” and song titles like “Oxy Cotton Candy,” that Sacré feels encapsulates the vibe of these new songs: “absurd weird and fun,” says Sacré “like there’s something off-kilter about it but it’s still disco-y and danceable.”

Speelburg’s music has been championed by tastemakers such as Pigeons and Planes, Indie Shuffle, Clash Music, Vice, DIY Magazine,  BBC Radio 1’s Phil Target, Annie Mac and Clara Amfo, KCRW’s Jason Kramer and Apple’s Zane Lowe. Collectively Speelburg’s music has been streamed over 8 million times and counting.

ADULT(ED) WITH MEGAN NICOLE LAUNCHES EPISODE FOUR: HOW TO WORK OUT ANYWHERE

ADULT(ED) WITH MEGAN NICOLE LAUNCHES EPISODE FOUR: HOW TO WORK OUT ANYWHERE

DSC04046.jpg

Megan Nicole, in conjunction with Jeenyus Entertainment, has launched the fourth episode of her brand new YouTube show Adult(ed). This episode is all about working out and is another incredible chapter to the full guide on how to being a grown up.

In this episode, Megan brings in muscle and mindset coach Natalie Flowers to walk Megan’s friend actress Greer Grammer  through how to live healthier despite being a busy working actress with a hectic schedule and lot’s of travel. Flowers takes Megan and Greer through a series of workouts that can be done on the go and almost anywhere using resistance bands and household items like paper plates. Flowers also coaches the girls on meal prep and portion control breaking it down into simple palpable rules and guidelines to make the task less daunting. One of the most important things Flowers touches on is how making real change starts with the right mindset. The human brain has over 70,000 thoughts a day, 90% of which are negative, so to start seeing real change we need to change our thoughts. Flowers’ gives viewers some insight into her four F’s system for creating a healthy and more positive mindset. Faith, which is what you believe about yourself.  Focus, and what you began to see. Feet, which is taking action on what you believe about yourself all which lead to a healthy and positive Future.

Adult (ed) was inspired by the last year of Megan’s life where she felt like she went from adolescence to adulthood overnight. She got married, bought her first home and became a pet parent. These rapid changes left her a little overwhelmed and wishing she had a handbook of sorts, thus, Adult(ed) was born. The feedback on the three episodes, “How to Transform A Rental Space,”  “How to Throw an Adult Dinner Party” and “What You Need in Your Kitchen” has been incredible thus far.  With this show, Megan is hoping that viewers walk away from the series and the individual episodes feeling informed, positive and confident about living a meaningful adult life.

WASI RELEASES THEIR DEBUT ALBUM RIOT POP

WASI RELEASES THEIR DEBUT ALBUM RIOT POP

WASI_RP_Final_3000px.jpg

Los Angeles revolutionaries WASI usher in a new movement of empowerment, inclusion and self-love with their debut album Riot Pop out everywhere today. Pushing for change and acceptance, this record comes right in time to celebrate Pride Month. In addition to the release of their debut, the band will head out on the road for their Love is Gay tour starting June 10th where they’ll be working with LGBTQ youth centers around the country at every tour stop, meeting with kids in each city to talk to them about music, art and above all, spreading a message of pride and breaking down barriers. To celebrate even further, the band will be DJing the Pride show at the tastemaker Los Angeles showcase night, School Night!

“WASI is the pop band the world needs right now.” AFFINITY MAGAZINE

WASI’s anthemic and relatable music is deeply rooted in their experience as outsiders. They own their voice and draw equal influence from the rebellion of the Clash and the pop sensibilities of Tegan & Sara. Not only do they write songs about defiance and shaking up the system, they live it every day. At the helm of the band are newlyweds and human rights activists Jessie Meehan and Merilou Salazar. The group developed and produce the Women Fuck Shit Up Fest that takes place in both Los Angeles and D.C., an event for women to show off their art in a safe, free and empowering environment. Their activism reached new heights last year when they single-handedly got Walgreens to establish a nationwide bathroom discrimination policy. See the video on the ACLU website HERE.

“It’s titled ‘Riot Pop,’ which is WASI’s name for their brand of music, which mashes electro-pop, hip-hop, dance-punk and garage-rock into a cocktail of self-affirmation and inclusivity. The band, founded by Buena Park natives (and now newlyweds) Merilou Salazar and Jessie Meehan, has become a beacon of positivity for youth whose identity, body type or politics has left them feeling as if they’re on the outside looking in.” –BUZZBANDS LA

This record explores themes of fear and isolation but balances that with messages of love and being comfortable in your own skin. “Riot Pop is the optimism we hold onto in the chaos of the world around us and in our heads,” says the band. They hope it will provide the same sense of security and reassurance to fans that they’ve found through their music.

“Like the rad, queer riot bands before them, this Los Angeles duo, comprised of Merilou Salazar and Jessie Meehan, is about more than just sick beats: it’s about using the emotive intensity of sound to rock the world into a better, more progressive future. “ –CURVE MAGAZINE

Square.jpg

Alt. rock, good vibes torchbearers The Mowgli’s are hitting the road this summer bringing their feel-good anthems to the East Coast and Midwest on their Summer Vacation tour, supported by Petal and Arms Akimbo.

From their beginning as a music collective in Venice Beach, California, The Mowgli’s have been writing songs of love, unity, and togetherness. Their breakout hit “San Francisco” brought them national attention and cemented the band as indie-rockers with purpose and a message. Two subsequent albums and two independent EP have captured an ever-growing fanbase drawn to their message of positivity.

“California indie collective The Mowgli's infuse their latest EP with their signature breezy style and heartwarming lyrics.” - Pop Dust

This tour comes on the heels of their second independent EP release American Feelings, a collection of songs about connection and the lack thereof in the modern world, that has been streamed over 2 million times and was released to warm praise from fans and the media alike. Billboard called the brooding song “Norman Rockwell” a“..richly textured and rhythmic track, ” Alternative Addition said “The EP features four of the band’s best songs to date,” and Unclear Magazine commented that “with nostalgic touches with a modern heartbeat, the band gives us the ballads of love and light.”

“American Feelings shows how truly versatile The Mowgli’s are as a group.”

- Highlight Magazine

The Mowgli’s - who began as a 10+ member group playing house parties and warehouse gatherings - is now led by Katie Jayne Earl with singer/guitarist Josh Hogan, drummer Andy Warren, keys player David Appelbaum and Matt Di Panni on bass. The release of their first major-label LP Waiting For The Dawn in 2013 saw immediate success with the hit single “San Francisco” and the band quickly found themselves playing to sold out crowds in clubs around the U.S. and inundated by requests for press, sponsorships and partnerships. The band’s music has accumulated 250 Million streams and counting, and they’ve graced the stages of major festivals such as Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, ACL, Firefly, Osheaga, Arroyo Seco, BottleRock, Bumbershoot and more. They’ve worked with major international brands such as Spotify, Abercrombie, Levi’s, GM, Dunkin’ Donuts, VW and Verizon and continue to spread their message of positivity not only through their music but through their work with charities such as Heal The Bay, Happy Bottoms and the International Rescue Committee.

LIZ VICE RELEASES "IT WAS GOOD"

LIZ VICE RELEASES “IT WAS GOOD” SINGLE

liz-vice-it-was-good.jpg

“Chance the Rapper and Kanye West may use gospel elements to give their music a reverent lilt, but the genre hasn’t had many crossover evangelists since Kirk Franklin’s hip-hop bombast brought it to the pop charts in the 1990s. Enter Ms. Vice, whose version of gospel is more rootsy than radio. She has a rich voice that fits easily into her groovy yet understated arrangements; the result recalls the gentle revival of artists like Leon Bridges. “ - The New York Time

Brooklyn by way of Portland, Oregon artist Liz Vice has released a new single “It Was Good.”  This song is the follow up to her sophomore album Save Me, released last year,  that debuted in the top 25 on the Billboard Gospel charts

The song was co-written with Glenn Lavender and Leslie Jordan and is based on the poem “Creation,” by James Weldon Johnson, who also wrote “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” Johnson became the national organizer for the NAACP in 1920 and edited the Book of American Negro Poetry, a major contribution to the history of African American literature. The song, like the poem, simply focuses on the beauty in the world, and what a gift it is to be alive and living on this planet.

Liz Vice is a storyteller at heart. The Portland native started her career working behind the scenes in the world of film and video, only to accidentally find herself behind the mic. Liz Vice’s sound is a fusion of Gospel and R&B, with dynamic and soulful vocals, and lyrics, deeply rooted in spirituality, that gives her work a  timeless feel. For the past four years, Vice’s music and live performances have put her on the map as an artist to watch. She has been praised and featured by Oregon Public Broadcasts’ One Song, NPR’s World Cafe and Weekend Edition, Mountain Stage, eTown, NPR’s Weekend Edition, Relevant Magazine, and more. She has shared the stage with artists such as Lake Street Dive, Rodriguez, Joss Stone, The Wood Brothers, Lecrae, Blind Boys of Alabama and performed at Mavis Staple’s 80th Birthday at the Apollo alongside David Byrne, Norah Jones, Jon Batiste, Warren Haynes and more.

Upon its release  Save Me was warmly received by fans and media alike. NPR said, “The mindfulness she brings to the stories she tells on Save Me proves essential and powerful.”  No Depression said, “Liz Vice walks the stony road to redemption, delivering tunes that celebrate the victory over the illusions that hold us down while acknowledging the heavyweight of self-doubt and missed opportunities for loving others that we bear,” and Bitch Magazine commented that “Liz Vice is unpretentious and uncomplicated on Save Me, a gospel album that aims straight for the spirit. Vice’s faith-based music, influenced by legends Mavis Staples and Sister Rosetta Tharpe, is lifting.”

Vice is currently working on her third full-length album which will come out next year.

WASI RELEASES "RUN"

WASI RELEASES “RUN” AHEAD OF THEIR ‘LOVE IS GAY’ PRIDE CELEBRATION TOUR

wasi-run.jpg

Los Angeles rebels WASI have released “Run” out everywhere today. This is the second single from their anticipated debut record Riot Pop coming out June 7th just in time for Pride Month. With “Run,” the band ushers in a new movement of self-empowerment. “It’s about being comfortable in your own skin,” says Wasi. “ Instead of running from pain and your own identity, it’s the decision to run with it and completely own yourself.”

“WASI is the pop band the world needs right now.” AFFINITY MAGAZINE

WASI’s anthemic songs are deeply rooted in their experience as outsiders. They own their voice in an often cloudy world. The band draws equal influence from the rebellion of the Clash and the pop sensibilities of Tegan & Sara. Not only do they write songs about defiance and shaking up the system, but they live it everyday. At the helm of the band are newlyweds and human rights activists Jessie Meehan and Merilou Salazar. The group developed and produce the Women Fuck Shit Up Fest that takes place in Los Angeles, and last year made its Washington D.C. debut.  Their activism reached new heights last year when they single-handedly got Walgreens to establish a nationwide bathroom discrimination policy. See the video on the ACLU website HERE.

In addition to working to change policies at major corporations like Walgreens, the band is heavily involved in the local community level, working with LGBTQ youth centers around the country at every tour stop. They’ll be doing the same on the Love is Gay tour, starting in June, meeting with kids in each city to talk to them about music, art and above all, spreading a message of pride and acceptance. With these ventures, they keep the themes of equality and love of self a constant in their music and lives outside of it.

NEXT CItY ANNOUNCES THE RELEASE OF “BLUE STAR”

+ LOS ANGELES AND NEW YORK SHOWCASES

next city.jpg

Los Angeles band NEXT CIty is making their sonic assault on the world with the release of their debut single  “Blue Star.” NEXT CIty is the creation of vocalist (and renowned actor) Samuel Larsen, best known for his work on Glee as the Joe Hart character, and his supporting role in the current hit film After , based on the novel by Anna Todd that became a worldwide phenomenon and guitarist Philip Paulsen. The two met while on tour together and began writing for a brand new project that would be heavy in garage rock grit, layered over a foundation steeped in groove, with the intention of getting people to shake off their inhibitions and dance. The band is rounded out by bassist Nick Diiorio, and drummer Ben Brinckerhoff who have helped to perfect the band’s brand of guitar-driven rock influenced heavy hitters like Death From Above 1979, The Dead Weather and Queens of The Stone Age, all while encompassing the electric energy of funk driven pop music that takes its cues from Prince and Michael Jackson.

Following releasing solo music in the pop and funk world, Larsen had the itch to start a rock band, to write and perform with. “ ‘Blue Star’ was the first song I started working on with a band in mind”, says Larsen. “I had the riffs and lyrics for a while before I met Phil and I felt stuck,  like I couldn't fully finish it, so I handed it off to Phil and he tightened up the arrangement, added a falsetto hook in the chorus and together we added a bridge.” “Blue Star” is inspired by the dichotomy between the dream and the reality of Hollywood and how it can be the dream but also the nightmare. The song is performed from the point of Hollywood and that they are enticing the dreamer with the bright dreams, but haunting her with the harsh reality too.

Later this summer, in addition to the release of their second single "Tell Me”, the band will be playing Los Angeles on June 5th at the Peppermint Club (tickets and info HERE) and June 11 in New York at the Mercury Lounge (tickets and info HERE).

LETHAL AMOUNTS PRESENTS I AGAINST I: THE ART OF HR HUDSON & LORI HUDSON

LETHAL AMOUNTS PRESENTS

I AGAINST I

THE ART OF HR HUDSON & LORI HUDSON

lethal-amounts-hr-hudson.jpg

Los Angeles gallery Lethal Amounts is honored to announce i against i, an exhibition of new work from HR and Lori Hudson. Paul “HR” Hudson is best known as the frontman of the iconic punk band Bad Brains, formed in 1979. With unprecedented speed and precision, Bad Brains took the Washington, DC music scene by storm and quickly became one of the most influential bands of all time, breaking down cultural barriers and creating emotionally charged music centered on the message of maintaining a positive mental attitude (PMA).

“HR and Bad Brains to me represent fearlessness and going with your gut,” says Lethal Amounts owner and Creative Director Danny Fuentes. “The first time I put on their first album I could sense them putting their heart and soul into their art. The ferocity coming through the speakers made your blood pump and made it an almost religious experience. You wanted to feel what they were feeling and believe in something as much as they do. This is the exact feeling I am trying replicate with the shows we produce at Lethal Amounts. You can’t ignore things that come across so sincere and make you aspire to be better than anything you ever imagined.”

HR  currently performs with Philadelphia musicians Ezekiel Zagar (original McRad) and Josh Freshy as HR & Human Rights, and is currently working on a solo album. In addition to Human Rights,  HR has been in the studio working with Ty Dolla $ign and Vic Mensa.

“HR is by far one of the greatest artists, writers, and musicians of all time, to say the least. I grew up listening to Bad Brains and play their music before every show of mine to this day. I love how HR was always saying what needed to be heard in his lyrics. He stood for something at all times and was always growing to be a better person while bringing his fans along for the ride.” – Ty Dolla $ign

Lori Carns Hudson is a contemporary artist working mostly in acrylic, incorporating smooth textures and a combination of painterly and true to life details, often exposing herself through self-portraits, her work is about connection and loss. In it, she shares where she feels pain and where she finds healing.

Lori and HR met in Baltimore in 2001  where they began to form a friendship. That friendship blossomed into a romantic relationship and the two were married in October of 2012. Throughout the early years of their friendship and marriage, Lori played the role of wife and caregiver addressing HR’s mental health and his worsening headaches. After much trial and error HR was diagnosed with  SUNCT (Short-lasting Unilateral Neuralgiform headache attacks with Conjunctival injection and Tearing), also nicknamed “Suicide Syndrome.” HR underwent brain surgery in 2017 to relieve the headaches. He made a full recovery and continues to live most free from his crippling headaches, allowing him the time and space to work on his music, art, and marriage.

The exhibit is a collaborative effort in both inspiration and execution by HR and Lori.  The private show opening, for which both artists will be in attendance, will be held on June 1st at 8 pm at the Lethal Amounts gallery. To attend the event reply here or rsvp to rsvp@sideways-media.com.

COOPER & GATLIN RELEASE THEIR CATCHY AND CLEVER SECOND SINGLE "LIKE YOU"

COOPER & GATLIN RELEASE THEIR CATCHY AND CLEVER SECOND SINGLE “LIKE YOU”

Like You_cover-FINAL (1).jpg

Up and coming brother-sister indie pop duo Cooper & Gatlin have released their second single “Like You” everywhere today. “Like You” was inspired by observing a rocky child-parent relationship, in which the roles were reversed and the child became the parent, losing out on having an actual childhood. Armed with a catchy hook and infectious production from Steve Solomon, who produced the James Arthur hit  “Say You Won’t Let Go” which has surpassed 1 Billion streams, Cooper & Gatlin delicately draw the listener into serious subject matter using the power of a danceable beat.

“It’s hard to believe that ‘Like You’ is only the second single released by this duo. Most artists take a while to find their sound, but Cooper & Gatlin have got theirs down. They’ve found their voice. “Like You” is an upbeat anthem with a unique sound. The catchy beat, clever lyrics, and smooth vocals make for a perfect addition to all of your playlists.” –Affinity Magazine

Their debut single “Break” is an equally catchy and relatable tune about the stoic face you put on in front of ex- lovers. It plays with the duality of looking alright before someone who has broken your heart. Upon its release the track was featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday U.S. playlist and the video has now amassed over 612,000 plays. Ultra Records artist Tep No also produced a remix of the track that he even called “one of the best remixes I've made.”

“Cooper & Gatlin's latest video is simple but doesn't hold back on aesthetics. The all-too relatable lyrics and intricate acoustic guitar shine.”  – Popdust

The true brilliance of this duo lies in their ability to blend elements of both acoustic and electronic music so seamlessly. They draw you in with their lush harmonies, tight melodies and playful brother-sister dynamic. They really found their sound when the pair’s family relocated to Los Angeles in 2014 from their hometown of Franklin, Tennessee. They’ve spent the past several years honing their craft as songwriters and musicians by forging their wide array of influences together to create a sound uniquely their own. They recently wrote a batch of new left-of-center pop songs that are fun and uplifting in delivery, but still deeply personal and relatable.

“The duo came in fast and hot, bursting onto the pop scene with a woozy neon anthem for the broken-hearted, garnering over half a million views since its release.”  –The Music Mermaid

THE MOWGLI'S RELEASE “HARD TO LOVE” SINGLE FROM AMERICAN FEELINGS EP OUT MARCH 1

THE MOWGLI’S RELEASE “HARD TO LOVE” SINGLE FROM AMERICAN FEELINGS EP DUE OUT MARCH 1

Hard To Love.jpg

Alternative Rock’s positivity torchbearers The Mowgli’s have released the effervescent first single “Hard to Love,” from their forthcoming EP American Feelings out March 1. The song - and the EP in general - hit on themes of human connection in a world that is simultaneously more interconnected and fragmented daily.

Since their early days as a 10+ member collective in Venice Beach, California The Mowgli’s have been writing songs that ooze and illicit joy, including their break out hit “San Francisco,” that brought them national attention and cemented the band as indie-rockers with purpose and a message. Two subsequent albums and an independent EP have captured an ever-growing fanbase drawn to their feel-good anthems. As the band has grown as individuals they’ve found a balance of mixing their uplifting writing with songs that give insight into the trials of a working band, as well as growing up in general. This was captured perfectly in their anthemic hit  “Kansas City” from 2018’s I Was Starting To Wonder EP.

The new record shifts gears, focusing on what it’s like to be a young person in America. It speaks to insecurities, relationships, communication both synthetic and genuine, and the lack thereof. “‘Hard To Love’ is about struggling with the feeling of being complicated when people just want things to be easy,” says Colin Dieden.  “Learning to let go of the guilt and accept the complexities about yourself that make you who you are, no matter how difficult. It is a song about love and a song about refusing to settle.”

“HARD TO LOVE” : WATCH

“Being a person is hard, and we’re all just trying to be people here,” adds Josh Hogan. “American Feelings honors that - it’s a well-rounded taste of us, The Mowgli’s.  It’s our best work yet, and we’re extremely proud of it. “

The band, slightly smaller than their inception is now comprised of singer/guitarists Colin Dieden & Josh Hogan, singer Katie Jayne Earl, drummer Andy Warren, keys player David Appelbaum and Matt Di Panni on bass.

The Mowgli’s will be playing songs from American Feelings live this winter on a co-headlining tour with Jukebox the Ghost. See the full list of tour dates HERE.

KEZAR RELEASES THEIR DEBUT SINGLE "(TELL ME) IT'S NOT LOVE"

KEZAR RELEASES THEIR DEBUT SINGLE “(TELL ME) IT’S NOT LOVE”

TMINL.jpg

Kezar has released their debut single “(Tell Me) It’s Not Love” out everywhere today. Kezar is a brand new project from seasoned musician Jack Mosbacher and drummer James Small (Fantastic Negrito). With this project, Mosbacher tapped into his affinity for infectious, previously unexplored beats.

After working with producer Nitzan Kaikov (Keith Urban, Justin Timberlake), what resulted is a danceable earworm packed with joy and romance. Boasting a wide array of sounds, Mosbacher incorporated stacked vocals and bass synthesizers on top of his more rock-leaning influences. Mosbacher described the track as “a song about those special moments that only happen once or twice a lifetime: when you meet somebody and immediately know that this person is going to change your life forever.”

When choosing a moniker for the project, Mosbacher wanted to stay true to his hometown of San Francisco by naming it after Kezar Stadium in the Haight-Ashbury district. Choosing the original home of the 49ers and a now music venue that played host to music legends such as Led Zeppelin, Santana and The Grateful Dead, seemed like the perfect segway into a new chapter in his career while staying true to his roots. While soul will always be the backbone of Kezar’s music, Mosbacher also draws inspiration from contemporary pop artists like Shawn Mendes, Bruno Mars and Sam Smith. Partnering with Small on this new project created the perfect marriage of Mosbacher’s sunny San Francisco pop style with Small’s heavier-hitting Oakland R&B.

The show provides each artist the freedom to display work that has been removed by Instagram or Facebook, thus giving these pieces an uncensored platform to promote their work. The pieces feature in the show have all been suspended on social media due their subject matter related to gender identity, sexuality and the human form.

Social Media has democratized how art is discovered and consumed. Artists are no longer at the mercy of the gatekeepers of the art world  (journalists, gallerists etc.) for their work to be shown. With the tap of a screen up and coming artists are able to share their work with the world and cultivate their own communities online.  For up and coming artists, and in the case of nearly every artist showing in Community Guidelines, social media is their lifeline. It is how they reach and audience, create communities and generate revenue for their work.

The show brings into question the definition of creative freedom. In an industry (social media) that has become a cultural phenomenon for enabling connection and self-expression Community Guidelines raises the question of how truly free the freedom of expression is be sold by these platforms.

Community Guidelines opens Friday February 15th with a private viewing party taking place on Thursday February 14th. RSVP for both events HERE or to rsvp@sideways-media.com

MOTHER WEST RELEASES THE SOUNDTRACK FOR 'ALL THESE SMALL MOMENTS'

MOTHER WEST RELEASES THE SOUNDTRACK FOR

ALL THESE SMALL MOMENTS

ATSM-FINAL ART_ALBUM COVER_crop main.jpg

Mother West has released the soundtrack to the highly buzzed about indie film All These Small Moments out today on all digital platforms.

When embarking on the soundtrack for her debut film, Melissa B. Miller-Costanzo plucked Dan Lipton from the theater world (conductor of The Band’s Visit and The Last Ship by Sting on Broadway) to compose an original score that would breathe additional life into the characters. Shortly after, she recruited music producer Charles Newman (The Magnetic Fields, The Bones of J.R Jones) to handle the music supervision and help find the perfect source music to not only compliment the story but help shape it.  What ensued was a partnership between Miller and Newman, taking them on a collaborative journey of the senses. With Newman taking on the music editor duties as well, the two cut their way through an array of musical options to align with the tone of Lipton’s developing score, while keeping a cohesive sound between the intertwining score cues and song choices they were narrowing down. What resulted was an indie pop rock retro-americana mashup, with a dash of ‘80s and shoegaze thrown in for good measure.

Featured tracks include the film’s musical centerpiece and theme song “My Love Will Bring You Back” that was written and recorded by Slow Runner, featuring Michael Flynn. The song’s music video even incorporates a performance by stars of the film Molly Ringwald and Brian d’Arcy James that Parade Magazine called “a sweet, touching, delicate and heartfelt rendition.” The score and accompanying tracks organically compliment the tale and shape it by closely weaving the music into the fabric of each scene. Miller-Costanzo wanted every song to take the viewer back to a place where they felt something real. Other featured tracks include Vermont troubadour Kris’s Gruen’s “Coming Down Around Me” which was co-penned by Miller-Costanzo after Newman tasked Gruen with writing a song to fit one of the scenes. Miller-Costanzo helped complete the chorus lyrics that enter at a key moment in the story, creating one of the peak marriages of song to picture in the film.

“Not all the storylines connect directly, but there’s a connecting theme. It’s really what the title says: It’s all these small moments that make up a life. It’s all the minutiae. To me, it’s very much like real life.” - Molly Ringwald as told to Entertainment Weekly

The coming-of-age drama is about a teenage boy's infatuation with a woman he sees on the bus that further complicates his already tumultuous adolescence. While he navigates life at home and his parents’ crumbling marriage, he pursues the woman. Other stars of this film include Jemima Kirke, Brendan Meyer, Sam McCarthy and Harley Quinn Smith. The film was released in theaters nationwide on January 17th and is available today on demand on digital platforms including Amazon, Google Play, Vudu, Xbox, Cox (Cable VOD), Comcast (Cable VOD), Spectrum (Cable VOD), Verizon (Cable VOD) and DirecTV (Cable VOD).

THE MOWGLI'S ANNOUNCE THE NEW EP 'AMERICAN FEELINGS' + NATIONWIDE TOUR WITH JUKEBOX THE GHOST

THE MOWGLI’S ANNOUNCE THE NEW EP AMERICAN FEELINGS & NATIONWIDE TOUR WITH JUKEBOX THE GHOST

AF EP.jpg

The Mowgli’s will be releasing a new four song EP American Feelings on March 1st followed by a co-headlining nationwide tour with Jukebox the Ghost.

From their beginning as a music collective in Venice Beach, California The Mowgli’s have been writing songs of love, unity and togetherness. Their break out hit “San Francisco” brought them national attention and cemented the band as an indie-rockers with purpose and a message. Two subsequent albums and an independent EP have captured an ever growing fanbase drawn to their feel-good anthems.

As they’ve grown, the group has balanced their positive music with songs that give a window into the trials of a working band: Juggling relationships, friendships and adulthood with the rigors of constant touring. This was most apparent in their currently highest-streaming single “Kansas City”, released last year. Now presenting their second self-controlled EP American Feelings, The Mowgli’s have, perhaps surprisingly, found greater bonds than ever before: If nothing else, the path is shared and those sharing it have an intimate knowledge of what the journey feels like.  “This EP speaks to the youth of America,” says Josh Hogan (guitar/vocals). “Being a person is hard, and we’re all just trying to be people here. American Feelings  is a well rounded taste of The Mowgli’s.  It’s our best work yet, and we’re extremely proud of it. “

This theme of connection is woven throughout the EP, starting with the anthemic pop song “Hard to Love” that pays homage to the daunting task of taking a good hard look at yourself in the mirror, owning up to who you are all while dancing your way through it, to the spacey and hypnotic  “Mr. Telephone” that examines our culture’s obsession with gadgets and synthetic connectivity. “We are all Mr. Telephone,” says Katie Earl, “seeking answers from a device in the palm of our hands, but after all is said and done, how much more connected are we? How much can we gain from spending time inside our phones, and how much do we lose? There is a lot of love and knowledge and connection outside of our little boxes, and finding a balance is more crucial than ever before.”  The EP is rounded out by the laid-back song “Norman Rockwell” that finds its lyrical roots in every youth’s disenfranchised America, and a stomping rocker “Talk About It,” that is about forgiveness and talking your way through difficult situations. “Communication is a very powerful tool,” says Hogan. “If we could learn to communicate in a healthy way, this place would be much less divided.”

The Mowgli’s - who began as a 10+ member group playing house parties and warehouse gatherings - is now comprised of singer/guitarists Colin Dieden & Josh Hogan, singer Katie Jayne Earl, drummer Andy Warren, keys player David Appelbaum and Matt Di Panni on bass.
