ISAAC WATTERS LOOKS TO THE STARS ON NEW SINGLE “ALL I NEED” VIA hi-res records

“Blending unique sounds with deep and sometimes haunting lyrics, Watters conjures up a new perspective for listeners and burgeoning artists.” - Los Angeleno

“Watters has been dipping his toes in assorted genres over the years, but he seems to rest most comfortably along the mesmerizing continuum between minimalist folk and moody theatricality.” - Magnet Magazine

“Isaac Watters, too, poignantly connects with his past on the typically immersive “Child in the Rain,” - Buzzbands LA

“...it’s hooked me, line and sinker. ‘Everywhere I go, I leave a little sadness,’ sung in the vein of Wolf Parade’s wobbly warbles? Take my money.” - Monster Children

“The result is a collection of songs (with more to come) that reflect different shadows of Watters’ LA life, but also process fears and anxieties about the natural world, climate change, and apocalypse that’s very much “in the air” for the artist.” Glide Magazine

“Extended Play 001 offers a first full glimpse of his restless and idiosyncratic artistic impulses, with tracks diverting towards minimalist art pop, funky indie rock, and off-kilter balladry… the EP closes off with “Sliding,” a slinking and smoky effort carried by bass-driven grooves and Watters’ decadent vocal melodies.” - Under The Radar

Watters has the ability to connect on a higher level, and his work signifies his sincere way with words, his adeptness at creating moments of innocence, and the way his music reverberates. All of this while at the same time not being raucous.” - The Review Geek

“All I Need”: LISTEN / WATCH

LOS ANGELES, CA - Today Los Angeles based artist Isaac Watters released “All I Need” via hi-res records. It’s a stunning widescreen rumination on loneliness that pairs Watters’ signature pensiveness with gorgeous shimmering guitar sonics. “This is all I need / A cup of coffee on a mountain top / A cabin tucked into a cleft of rock / An empty notebook and a stone flowing ink,” sings Watters atop of a steady-paced groove and drum section, perfect to soundtrack a dusty desert montage.

Subtly soaring galactic synths recall the scene that Watters took in at a cabin in the desert just outside Joshua Tree, CA, where a panoramic vision of the vast desert landscape inspired a prolonged look up to the stars. “I began to imagine being in outer space, floating away from the surface of our planet, and towards the farthest reaches of the universe,” says Watters. “It felt like a metaphor for the internal loneliness we all share, the farther we go inside ourselves mirrored only by the great expanse outside of us.”

It also got him thinking about Michael Collins, the astronaut that went around the dark side of the moon during the moon landing while Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were down on the surface. A New York Times article (see more below) Watters cites as inspiration draws clear parallels to “All I Need.”

“I am still here up on the mountain / Been tryin’ for years to come down / See the dust kick up in the distance / I hope that it's you coming round,'' wails Watters as the resonance in his voice underscores the isolation and wanting of that human connection. There's a through line between self and surroundings throughout Watters’ music, a constant conversation between the landscape, the forces that shape it, and the inhabitants who call it home. "All I Need" finds Watters considering his own place in the universe, and the perpetual perseverance of loneliness in an ever-changing world.

Watters found a partnership in the label, and in producer/engineer Matt Linesch, whose analog-first approach to recording and production perfectly encapsulates and supports the warmth of Watters’ artistic vision and songwriting approach.

The music video was directed by Aaron Eisenberg  of Sound + Video Co. and filmed in Pipes Canyon in Yucca Valley, CA. Avid cinephiles and fans of the 1984 film Paris, Texas may recognize a nod to Harry Dean Stanton’s character in Watters’ attire, performance, and march through the desert. The relationship between sight and sound has always shown itself in Watters’ work. Trained as an architect, Watters began his career working for legendary Frank Gehry and recently contributed his expertise as a set designer on the films Don’t Worry Darling, Boston Strangler, and many others.

Watters will be performing in Los Angeles at Club Tee Gee on April 24th and May 22nd.

New York Times Michael Collins Interview for reference for “All I Need"

“For half a century, Michael Collins has been answering variations of the same question asked by reporters, he says:

“Mr. Collins, weren’t you the loneliest man in the whole lonely history of this lonely planet by your lonely self behind the lonely moon in this lonely orbit? Weren’t you terribly lonely?” he mused.

“I had this beautiful little domain,” Mr. Collins said. “It was all mine. I was the emperor, the captain of it, and it was quite commodious. I had warm coffee, even.”

SPEELBURG EXTENDS AN “INVITATION” INTO THE WILD ABANDON WITH HIS CHAOTIC AND LIVELY NEW SINGLE

LISTEN TO “INVITATION”:  HERE

The UK-based Belgium-American multi-hyphenated creative Speelburg has released his latest single, "Invitation" out today on his own Sophomore Slump records. This song follows the singles “Be Yourself”  and “I’m Back,” released earlier this year.

“Invitation,” is a fast-paced celebration of youth, with a flavor of the exquisite vibrancy of the early aughts indie rock, that sees Speelburg working with his longtime collaborator mix engineer Joe Visciano (Action Bronson, Beck, Doja Cat, Joy Again, Wet et) as well as string arranger and composer Haydn Wynn (Calathea Quartet, Catherine Called Birdy Soundtrack).

According to Noah Sacré, the mastermind behind Speelburg “the song is like being in the eye of a hurricane watching it all fly by via loud explosive trumpets and a galloping string section to achieve something beautiful, chaotic and fun.”

No Speelburg release would be complete without a visual component, directed and produced by Sacré featuring his signature wit and sharp sense of humor.   In addition to music,  Sacré has a burgeoning career as a director and animator.  The videos for the past three single releases are essentially the same video with small subtle changes to the background and the actors' wardrobe. They were created to have the same effect as looking at a series of paintings in a gallery.  “I’m trying to get to a point where the videos are so absent of any kind of narrative and so performance-based, that it’s all style and emotion and no story, " says Sacré. “ And really what I want is for it to be like you’re watching a 720p CAM version of 2O1: A Space Odyssey overdubbed with the audio from Beavis & Butthead: Do America.”

Speelburg has amassed over 11 million total streams from previous releases, including his 2020 debut full-length album Porsche and most recent single “I’m Back” which was featured in a spot for  Jimmy Kimmel.  Speelburg splits his time between the UK and Los Angeles and has received accolades and support from Noisey, Ones To Watch, The Line of Best Fit, Pigeons & Planes, Clash Magazine, SPIN, American Songwriter, BBC Radio 1, Sirius XM, Los Angeles’ KCRW, Chicago’s WTMX and more. His music has been used by global brands such as FIFA, Samsung, and Google Pixel and featured on FoxSports, MatchOfTheDay, Channel 4 UK, and more. Speelburg is signed to Sony Music Publishing where he has worked with Danny Burke, Adam Lambert, Cautious Clay, Gnash, Ben H Allen, Nat Motte, Brian West, and more.  His innovation as a visual artist and unique approach to filmmaking has made him a sought-after director, directing videos for artists such as John Legend and the National. This month Speelburg is supporting Magic Giant at Venice West in Los Angeles on March 11 and at the Rebel Lounge in Phoenix, Arizona  on March 14.

ALICE HOWE UNVEILS NEW SINGLE & VIDEO “WHAT ABOUT YOU”

CIRCUMSTANCE LP SET FOR RELEASE APRIL 21

LISTEN // WATCH “WHAT ABOUT YOU”

Los Angeles-based, Boston-bred, singer-songwriter Alice Howe has released “What About You,” the lead single and video from her forthcoming LP, Circumstance, set for release on April 21st.“ The biggest rock and roll song on the new album is What About You, with Howe’s country-soaked vocals providing a nice contrast to the driving instrumental,” said Twangville in their premiere. “It’s a nod to everyone’s deep desire to find not just a lover, but a best friend and soulmate, or as Howe says, ‘a soul connection.’ Lest you think it’s some angst-ridden anthem, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Howe keeps it playful with references from sharing a Sunday afternoon soundtrack to a lifestyle escape.”

“As you can see from the music video, ‘What About You’ has really brought out my playful side. To me, it feels like a '70s Linda Ronstadt track with a Chuck Berry guitar solo, but the lyrics have a profound message,” says Howe. “It's a song about finding a love that goes way beyond the superficial. Ultimately, it's about believing that that person is out there, looking for you and that you deserve nothing less than to find them.”

Recorded in two sessions at the legendary FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, where Etta James and Wilson Pickett once shook the walls, Circumstance channels their spirits with 11 stirring tracks that pull no punches diving into the vagaries of the heart and her own personal journey. As an old soul inside a 30-something millennial, Howe puts her stamp on Americana’s venerable strands with 10 standout originals evoking both the classic singer-songwriters and the seminal music that once filled airwaves, roadhouses, and juke joints.

“There is so much history there, and I did feel like there was a certain amount of pressure to deliver and be a singer,” Howe recalls of FAME Studios. “I’m in this room with Aretha Franklin and Etta James looking down on me, and it’s like that Mona Lisa thing where the eyes follow you around the room and you’re like: ‘Hi, ladies!’ Those are singers with a capital S.”

Circumstance, produced and arranged by Howe’s creative partner, Freebo, a veteran bass player and former Bonnie Raitt band member, displays her vocal prowess and introspective writing in abundance, mining both her heart and her musical tastes for a deep, personal journey across an Americana soundscape dotted with blues, folk, country, soul, and rock.

Opener “You’ve Been Away So Long,” leads with a resolution to make peace with the turmoil of the past. From there, the journey kicks into high gear with “Somebody’s New Lover Now,” its chiming guitar and Hammond B3 organ creating a perfect fusion of modern country and soul. “Love Has No Rules” features catchy opening guitar hooks, while “With You By My Side,” a serious groove with tight horns and smooth background singers that could have come from FAME’s R&B archives, soars even higher.

But there’s also quieter energy that burns just as brightly. “Let Go” calls forth pensive guitar and lilting piano to tell a tale of healing, while the atmospheric “Something Calls to Me” evokes a mist-filled bayou night and “Travelin’ Soul” serves a shot of country blues straight up. The final track, “It’s How You Hold Me,” written by Dayna Kurtz, beautifully showcases the power and range of Howe’s rich, emotive vocals.

The album is a personal, soulful nod to her influences and the music she loves, all of it sung old-school without auto-tuning. In spirit, it draws from admired singers – Alison Krauss or the 1970s Laurel Canyon circle— but its soul is pure Alice Howe.

ALISA AMADOR UNVEILS NEW SINGLE “SLOW DOWN”

ALISA AMADOR UNVEILS NEW SINGLE “SLOW DOWN”

VIA GLIDE MAGAZINE

DEBUT MINI-ALBUM NARRATIVES OUT ON SEPTEMBER 17TH

“Alisa Amador sings with the ease of someone who has been performing for the entirety of her life” - American Songwriter

“…knocks together the worlds of Lake Street Dive and Fiona Apple into a tell-it like it is a morning anthem. With skatty jazz bravado and an engaging vocal presentation, Amador is a chill addition to the ’70s influenced singer-songwriter sect”- Glide Magazine

LISTEN: “SLOW DOWN”

Today, Boston-based artist Alisa Amador releases “Slow Down,” the latest single from her forthcoming mini-album Narratives, set for release on September 17th. Amador penned the breezy track in the midst of a cycle of continuous work-related intensity and endless tasks, wishing time would slow down so she could get everything done and find some rest.

"Sounds a bit bleak when I write it down! But, writing this song was so healing for me,” she explains. “It gave name to the chaos that I was learning to navigate, which helped me come to terms with it, and consequently, start to advocate for myself more. You know that feeling when your alarm goes off in the morning, and you’re like, “noooooooooooo!”? That’s how this song began,” she told Glide Magazine. “Hope this song helps you to cope with that feeling.”

“Slow Down” follows the release of “Timing,” a lively, optimistic, and wry song which addresses the frustrating yet exciting realization that you’ve found love, but the timing is off. “Timing” was featured on Spotify’s "Fresh Finds,” "Fresh Finds: Indie,” and "Stay in Bed" playlists, as well as Apple Music’s "Now That's What I Call Today's Top Hits.”

LISTEN: “TIMING”

Alisa Amador is a connector. Her upcoming mini-album, Narratives, is a six-song snapshot in time. It’s a deep look at a person stumbling through life in two languages—English and Spanish—and in many states of mind about it all. Her crystal-clear vocals are so effortless throughout Narratives that it’s almost easy to forget how technically talented she is, until she moves from almost-spoken-word territory to a powerful chorus without hesitation or illustrates a repetitive refrain that’s so affecting it feels like you might want to live inside it for a little while.

“The word ‘narratives’ encompasses not only the existing cultural messages that hurt people individually and collectively,” she says, “but also the revolutionary power of writing ourselves new narratives; rejecting a culture of fear; and catalyzing a culture of honesty, bravery and self-love in the process.”

When listening to Amador’s music, her time spent immersed in Latin folk and jazz is undoubtedly present in her own songs, written in both English and Spanish. But there is also pop, funk, soul, and something uniquely her own. Her specialty is sparking connection, across both listeners and musical styles. Working with producer Daniel Radin (The Novel Ideas, Future Teens), Narratives concentrates on the journey of Amador’s live set, taking listeners through songs that may elicit a laugh, bring introspection, offer a cathartic cry, or encourage a sing-along.

The genre-bending effort is as empowering as it is heart-wrenching. These songs explore themes of romance and heartbreak, of chaos and healing, exposing systems of oppression and shining a light on the intricacies of the human condition. They might break your heart open, but by the end, it will be mended, uplifted, and stronger—a ‘Life and Love Survival Kit' in the form of a bilingual EP.

“These songs are a reflection of the world I am moving through, with all of its joy, its sorrow, its confusion, and its rage,” she reveals. “Each song is a processing of personal experience, framed within my larger cultural backdrop of New Englander, Latinx, cis-gendered woman, young adult, twin, daughter, and so on. I’m just trying to create a space for myself and all my conflicting identities to fit in, and it seems like I’m helping listeners feel the same way in the process.”  Click HERE to pre-order Narratives.

THE DAVENPORTS RELEASE "WHERE SHALL WE HANG ELENA?" + ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM

THE DAVENPORTS RELEASE “WHERE SHALL WE HANG ELENA?” + ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM DON’T BE MAD AT ME COMING JULY 13TH

Where Shall We Hang Elena.jpg

New York indie pop group The Davenports have released the single “Where Shall We Hang Elena?” from the forthcoming album Don’t Be Mad at Me due out July 13th.

The Davenports is the long time project of songwriter and musician Scott Klass, who according to the Deli Magazine are “steeped in pop/rock—Ben Folds meets Weezer …leading you to sing along to songs you’re hearing for the first time while stories unfold of relationships gone awry….”

“Where Shall We Hang Elena? ” was inspired by an incredible 60’s/70’s era photo Klass had of his mother, who died when he was only twelve. He wanted to hang the image, but wasn’t sure he wanted the constant reminder of the painful memory. Klass found this dilemma of wanting to honor the life of a loved one, but also being fearful of the pain the constant reminder of their absence would bring to be a relatively universal feeling. Everyone has experienced this mixture of loss, fear and love and it was this idea that sparked  the writing of “ Where Shall We Hang Elena?”  The song is not about his mother, but a fictional girl, who both mesmerized the family and caused them heartache.

Prior Davenports albums have been released to critical acclaim, the songs of which can be heard in a number of films and TV shows, including the song “Five Steps,” which is the theme song to A&E’s Emmy-nominated show Intervention. Although, Klass is at the helm of the writing and creative process behind the Davenports, he has always looked at the project as a collective. The collective is made up a rotating group of stellar artists creating music with regular appearances by Claudia Chopek (Father John Misty, Springsteen, Moby), Garo Yellin (The Band’s Visit, The Ordinaires, Pere Ubu), Danny Weinkauf, Dan Miller (They Might Be Giants), Erik Philbrook, Rob Draghi and Cheri Leone to name a few.   “

“Klass writes melodic confections that seep into your psyche and stay…and does so with wit and intelligence.” – Pop Matters

Don’t Be Mad at Me, marks a series of firsts for Klass. Shirley Simms of The Magnetic Fields handles lead vocals on “Miranda in Her Room”--the first Davenport's song to ever feature a lead vocalist other than Klass. The track ”I Don’t Know What to Do”--marks Klass’s entry into the world of co-writing.  Klass wrote the song with Swedish pop musician David Myhr (The Merrymakers) while on a “co-writing tour” of the U.S. The tracks “Miranda in Her Room,” and  “I Don’t Know What to Do” were also collaborations, and in this case long distance international collaborations.

In addition to the Davenports, Klass is member of Look Park, the new project from Fountains of Wayne front man Chris Collingwood which also includes Philip Price of Winterpills. Last year, the trio played Japan’s Fuji Rock festival, opened for Squeeze on their west coast tour, and last Spring Klass and Collingwood supported rock legend Dave Davies of the Kinks.
