LOS ANGELES SINGER-SONGWRITER TEDDY GROSSMAN ANNOUNCES NORTH AMERICAN FALL TOUR DATES W/ THE WAR & TREATY AND RYAN MCMULLUN

Cr: Ty Cole

‘Grossman has a voice that simply must be heard - it reminds me of St. Paul & The Broken Bones and Leon Russell. His lyrics are both relatable and personal, and his story, even at its beginnings, is worth hearing. “-SongFacts

“Teddy Grossman is as honest as they come. The LA-based singer/songwriter creates soulful music with melodies that linger in listeners’ minds.” - American Songwriter

“Just three tracks into the Soul/Americana hybrid it’s hard to believe Grossman ever considered doing anything else with his life. Grossman turns in a beautifully satisfying record that is emotionally tough at times but unapologetically joyful elsewhere.” - Americana Highways

"Introducing his take on gospel, blues, and folk music, filtered through the soul classics of his youth. His vocals cast the track in the bruised cries and irresistible melodies of Otis Redding or Bill Withers.” - Under the Radar

‘There’s an old soul man bottled up inside singer-songwriter Teddy Grossman. Not unlike contemporaries such as Curtis Harding, Benjamin Booker, Nathaniel Rateliff and Anderson East, Grossman does right by his R&B and folk heroes.” - Buzzbands LA

“Combines sonic elements of both Americana and R&B, evoking some of the best American songwriters.” - UPROXX

Listen to Soon Come: HERE

LA-based singer/songwriter Teddy Grossman will be headed out on tour this fall supporting the War & Treaty and Ryan McMullan, playing songs from his critically acclaimed debut album Soon Come. This tour follows up his sold-out album release show at Gold Diggers in April, debuting at the Troubadour with Joey Dosik the next month, and two sold-out nights supporting the legendary Mavis Staples at London’s Union Chapel in June.

Although a lifelong music lover & maker, pursuing a career in music was put on the back burner. After a decade of his own music playing second fiddle to the life of a traveling salesman, Grossman picked up everything and moved to Los Angeles, where he soon began recording what would become, Soon Come, leaving behind his job and former life along the way. The ever-soulful singer-songwriter emotes like a man who has been down many paths, only to arrive back definitively where he’s forever belonged. “I need to be able to look back at my life and say I gave it a real go.” This steady perseverance and passion of Grossman’s— it all goes a long way in explaining why the multi-talented artist has finally arrived at this moment, his moment, which comes pouring forth via his cerebral and sublimely centered songs— the sort that speaks to years of hard-won wisdom and, well, maybe a bit of luck.

With the reaction to Grossman’s initial single offerings from the album, it looks like that combo of luck and wisdom has come full circle. “I had this impossible aim of Music From Big Pink and Voodoo as the northern stars of this record,” Grossman explains. This is most recognizable on the lead single “Leave it on the Line” reflects these loft aims, which has amassed nearly one million streams to date. Part gospel and blues and rock and folk and Appalachia and soul and R&B, Soon Come has won over fans and media alike. Soultracks said “‘Ready,” “showcases an artist who is more than ready to make his mark in the music world,” and Under the Radar compared “Giving Up” to the classic soul of Bill Withers and Otis Redding, saying that the song “sports a universal pop appeal, with gospel backing vocals and a standout climactic sax solo, bringing the track to a sing-along fever pitch." Grossman has already garnered 1.5 million streams and featured on Spotify playlists Mellow Morning, Retro Soul, and Morning Commute, and Apple Music playlists’ Acoustic Chill, Long Walk, Smooth Easy, Breaking R&B and New in R&B, seeing him right alongside artists like Leon Bridges, Yola, Lee Fields, Zella Day Brandi Carlile etc.

Accompanying the singles are some of Grossman’s most story-rich songs, including “Crowned,” a song that sprang forth from an unlikely friendship with the iconic singer-songwriter Bill Withers near the end of the legend’s life. After a chance meeting one night, in 2018, at a small Bill Withers tribute concert in Los Angeles, Grossman and longtime musical collaborator and drummer, Josh Teitelbaum, wound up going over to Withers’ house for a few inspired hangs. The song recounts Bill’s incredible life, referencing a phrase Withers kept saying as he’d run his fingers through his full head of hair during their time together - “I’m Crowned in Glory.”

“Why Should I Pretend?,” probably the most personal and poignant song on the album, was first written by Grossman’s grandfather Buddy back in the 1930’s. It was recorded later that decade by jazz icon Louis Prima & his New Orleans Gang. Grossman even plays his childhood instrument, the trumpet on the song, as a tribute to his late grandfather.

“For a long time in my life, I felt this low-grade hum in the background that I wasn’t really where I was supposed to be,”says Grossman. Soon Come, then, he says, “is ultimately a record about hope, and a deep knowing that we’re gonna get there… all in good time.”

OUT TODAY: GRAMMY® AWARD WINNERS TOM PAXTON, CATHY FINK, & MARCY MARXER RELEASE COLLABORATIVE LP ALL NEW

“There’s something for everyone in these 28 songs: bluegrass, folk, a cappella, spoken word, and just as wide a range of emotions. All New gives us valuable lessons to carry into an uncertain future” - No Depression

“...makes you feel good for listening” - Bluegrass Today

“...the album is a joy to hear, three masters still at the top of their game” - Folk Radio UK

“...this album is an elixir for the soul” - Americana Highways

“...refreshing and authentic folk flavor, Paxton, Fink, and Marxer mix their combined talent to create socially relevant songs” - Music Mecca

LISTEN: ALL NEW

GRAMMY® Award-winning icons Tom Paxton, Cathy Fink, and Marcy Marxer (who make music as Cathy & Marcy), have released their live, double album collaboration, ALL NEW. Recorded live for a small audience at Tonal Park Studios in Takoma Park, Maryland by engineer and co-producer Charlie Pilzer the album features Paxton on guitar (with one kazoo solo), Fink on banjo and guitar, and Marxer on mandolin, guitars, cello-banjo, banjo-ukulele, cittern, and washboard.  There are also guest contributions from Della Mae’s Kimber (mandolin, fiddle harmonies), and Alex Lacquement (bass, harmonica).

ALL NEW combines the talents of folk music royalty, steeped in American Roots music, and spanning a few generations. Paxton, Fink, and Marxer are storytellers, string maestros, and social justice warriors. Most importantly, they are  music lovers, a fact that becomes evident from the first listen. The songs began in weekly co-writing sessions on ZOOM with Paxton and Fink in 2020.

They wanted to write new songs for group singing and community connections such as “The Freedom of Forgiving” and “Grateful.” There is a triolgy about female outlaws of the old west (“Eleanor Dumont,” “The Pearl of Arizona,” “Stagecoach Mary”), along with country tunes, bluegrass barn burners (“Since You,” which was featured at Bluegrass Today and The Bluegrass Situation), social commentary (“Don’t Say Gay,” “When The Big Bad Books Go ‘Boo!’”) an a capella song of gratitude for our first responders (“To The Ones Who Gave It All”), and even a love song to a guitar.

WATCH: DON’T SAY GAY (ft. THE GAY MEN’S CHORUS OF WASHINGTON, DC)

GRAMMY® Lifetime Achievement Award Winner Tom Paxton has become a voice of his generation, addressing issues of injustice and inhumanity, laying bare the absurdities of modern culture, and celebrating community. In describing Paxton's influence on his fellow musicians, Kennedy Center Honors Awardee Pete Seeger has said: "Tom's songs have a way of sneaking up on you. You find yourself humming them, whistling them, and singing a verse to a friend.”

A catalog of hundreds of songs serves to document Paxton's 57-year career and the power his songs have had on major artists who have recorded them including Willie Nelson, Placido Domingo, Porter Waggoner and Dolly Parton, Judy Collins, Joan Baez, and more.

TWO-TIME GRAMMY® Award Winners, Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer are an eclectic folk festival on their own terms. They have entertained the Queen of Thailand, been keynote singers for the AFL-CIO, performed at hundreds of folk festivals, and appeared on the "Today Show" and on National Public Radio. Their superb harmonies are backed by instrumental virtuosity on the guitar, five-string banjo, ukulele, mandolin, cello-banjo, and more.

The duo, whose past students include Kaki King and Rhiannon Giddens, are the artistic directors of the Ola Belle Reed Songwriting retreat and of The Music Center at Strathmore’s annual Ukefest. They are closing in on their 50th recording and have been honored with 65 Washington Area Music Awards, 12 GRAMMY® nominations, and a multi-generational following of fans.  Be sure to follow Tom Paxton and Cathy & Marcy at the links below for the latest news and updates.

OUT TODAY: THE ACCIDENTALS & KABOOM COLLECTIVE STUDIO ORCHESTRA’S NEW LP REIMAGINED

COLLABORATIVE TOUR BEGINS AT THE ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME ON AUGUST 3

LISTEN: REIMAGINED

Today, Nashville-based, female-fronted, critically-acclaimed trio The Accidentals and the Cleveland-based Kaboom Collective Studio Orchestra have released their stunning collaborative album, Reimagined.

Kaboom Collective, co-founded by Joe Weagraff and Liza Grossman, gives students between the ages of 15 and 25 the opportunity to receive cutting-edge music education. The 40-member Kaboom Collective Studio Orchestra is a Hollywood-style ensemble comprised of students that compose, score, perform, and record music for various projects. As the only production-based programming in the country, they create musical beds for everything from video game soundtracks to studio albums; from animation scores to live performances, students in the Studio Orchestra work closely with each other and a team of professional musicians, educators, and producers to bring new works and productions to life.

The Accidentals have a repertoire of cinematic music well-suited to be reimagined with a full orchestra. They provided basic tracks and Grossman’s students scored, arranged, and recorded 11 Accidentals songs alongside industry professionals who guided their creation in a supportive, encouraging way.

WATCH: “LADY OF THE LAKE”

Music education is an important cause for The Accidentals’ Katie Larson and Sav Buist, who met in their public high school orchestra and became a band after witnessing an immersive workshop by two women that played the same instruments they did. Seeing the possibilities firsthand gave them the courage and empowerment to pursue music beyond the orchestra. They were inspired. They often say that music connected them to friendships and skill sets that changed the trajectory of their lives for the better.

After 10 years as a band, multiple major and indie label deals, and touring over a thousand live shows and festivals, The Accidentals started their own non-profit called Play It Forward Again and Again to provide opportunities for students to experience the inspiration that launched their careers. Collaborating with Kaboom was a no-brainer: their missions of music education and empowerment aligned.

With the Reimagined collaboration, the students are gaining hands-on experience with recording, tour management, sound engineering, merchandising, stage crew skills, hospitality, promotion, marketing, press, and more.

The Accidentals and the Kaboom Studio Orchestra will kick off a string of tour dates together to support the release of Reimagined on August 3rd at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. See below for a full list of dates. Be sure to follow them on the links below for all the latest news and updates.

CHAYLA HOPE PREMIERES NEW SINGLE “FORGET ME NOT” VIA THE HONEY POP

PARTNERS WITH ANIMAL RESCUE ORGANIZATIONS FOR RELEASE TO CREATE AWARENESS

Cleveland-based powerhouse Chayla Hope has unleashed her latest single “Forget Me Not,” the third track from the vinyl-presser-turned-pop-star’s debut record Damn, Feelings, due out October 2022. Hope is using the single to raise awareness about animals in need of adoption and rescue, a cause very close to her heart. She will be partnering with animal rescue organizations in her hometown of Cleveland and beyond, like the UK-based Wunder Dog Rescue, which seeks to compassionately reduce the global stray dog population.

Mixed by 10-time GRAMMY award winner Josh Gudwin (Bad Bunny, Justin Bieber, Dua Lipa), the breezy ebb and flow of this summertime bop meditates on the feelings of attraction we often leave unexpressed. "It's about having the courage to act on them even when you're afraid," Hope says. "Not wanting to say anything out of fear, but knowing that not saying something could be holding both of you back from the love you've always wanted." “The vocals on this song absolutely blew us away. We can’t get over how much we love Chayla’s voice. The production is incredible, too,” said The Honey Pop in their premiere. “Forget Me Not” follows singles “Falling” and “Love In Lo-Fi.”

Chayla Hope is pop’s next great voice. Making a name for herself in Cleveland’s music scene pressing vinyl at Gotta Groove Records and collaborating with up-and-coming producer Jesty Beatz (aka Holy Mattress Money), her sophisticated take on the sounds of the ‘80s and ‘90s recalls the influence of Kate Bush, Whitney Houston, Annie Lennox, and Robyn, marrying inventive arrangements with an impressive range and infectious spirit.

After years spent fronting and singing in alternative rock bands, including Emmy and multiple ADDY award-winning local favorites Seafair, pop is where Chayla was meant to be. “Pop is the music that raised me, the music my mom used to listen to while cleaning the house,” she says on planting her musical flag in the genre. “It’s always been there for me as an anchoring and joyful force. It is me.”

Throughout her life, Chayla has had to overcome obstacles like heartbreak and trauma by dressing up, performing, and powering through by sheer force of her artistic and creative vision. She has long been fascinated by the juxtaposition of happy music masking sad lyrics, exploring the complicated nature of human experience through its most common facet: our feelings.

A proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community who found her performance identity doing drag, it’s no surprise Chayla was selected to sing the theme song for Care Bears: Unlock The Magic and has numerous features in the show’s soundtrack and merchandise, embodying its core themes of empowerment, inclusion, and self-understanding through her music.

Chayla Hope will make her live debut on Friday, July 22nd as a part of Greyt Culture’s Golden Hour concert series in Cleveland. Click HERE for tickets and show information. Be sure to follow her at the links below for the latest news and updates.

INTRODUCING: MARYANNA DEVLIN + NEW SINGLE “MANCHESTER BY THE SEA” OUT TODAY

A GREAT MANY THINGS LP OUT SEPTEMBER 30

Germany-based singer/songwriter Maryanna Devlin has announced her forthcoming debut LP, A Great Many Things, due out on September 30th, with the release of its first single, “Manchester By The Sea,” available for streaming and download on digital platforms today.

“Manchester-by-the-Sea is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been, filled with sprawling private estates and private roads,” Devlin says of the scenic escape located in her home state of Massachusetts. “I think this song was a way for me to gain access to this idyllic seaside town that is really only reserved for the elite.”

LISTEN: “MANCHESTER BY THE SEA”

Maryanna Devlin is a compelling singer-songwriter whose distinctly narrative, folk-leaning indie rock runs on pure instinct. There’s a supremely natural, vulnerable quality to her music—which resists pop formulas in favor of organic composition—guided by an intuitive understanding of the dynamics of storytelling. For Devlin, music is both an outlet for trauma and an excuse to share our best stories. As a performer, her lush vocals and raw energy have drawn comparisons to both Lana Del Rey and Sharon van Etten, while her unique arrangements and introspective lyrics are informed by a background in theater and a deep love of literature. Now poised to release her debut full-length album, A Great Many Things, in September 2022, Devlin showcases stunning breadth and originality in eight nuanced anthems.

Born in Vermont and raised outside of Boston, Devlin moved to Manhattan after high school to study acting, where she fell in love with the transitive power of art. “When you see a painting or hear a song and become overwhelmed with sudden feeling, that’s the artist’s emotion. I’m fascinated by how art can transcend time and space to connect people, to make them feel less alone,” she says. Devlin didn’t explore the cathartic power of music first-hand until her early twenties, when she began songwriting as a way to process childhood grief. The devastating loss of her brother, who passed away when she was fourteen, led her to pursue music nearly a decade later. “He was an excellent musician, and when he died, there were a lot of emotions I needed to process. But I didn’t know how until seven years later when I started writing songs—then it all poured out of me.” Inspired by Brandi Carlile, she borrowed a guitar and taught herself to play using a pamphlet of chords from her mother. She found singer-songwriter Josh Ritter a few years later, whose idiosyncratic style inspired her to continue creating music in her own, unique way.

After college, Devlin shifted from acting to making music, attracted to the creative independence a music career could offer. Over the next several years she wrote, self-produced, and released three solo EPs, honing her vocal tone and unique brand of storytelling through the influence of artists like Simon and Garfunkel, Hiss Golden Messenger, Josh Ritter, and Stevie Nicks. Her early forays into songwriting soon led to performances across the East Coast and Europe, sharing the stage with acts like Darlingside and Becca Mancari. She met her partner in Nashville in 2013, and the pair eventually relocated to Frankfurt, Germany in 2017.

In A Great Many Things, Devlin presents a richly textured, more expansive version of her signature organic, acoustic sound. Many of the tracks on this refined and sharply reflective indie-Americana collection features a full band backing Devlin’s distinctly smooth vocals. The tracks, all written and composed by Devlin, are steeped in family and personal history, with lyrical themes exploring large temporal concepts like lineage, memory as a means of time-travel, and the movement of time itself. Throughout the album, Devlin considers how we are connected and disconnected by its passing. From the first track, “Gary, Indiana”—a wistful, lilting ballad layered with acoustic guitar and haunting vocal harmonies—to the gently melancholic maritime ballad “Manchester by the Sea,” A Great Many Things contains an authentic variety of deeply human feeling. Sound-wise, the album spans an equally broad emotional spectrum, with moments of somber introspection in the vein of Elliot Smith and Townes Van Zandt juxtaposed with passages of bright and graceful ease; Devlin’s elegantly emotive vocals fall somewhere between Emmylou Harris’s mellow drawl and the raw purity of indie-pop artist Mirah.

INTRODUCING: lund + DEBUT LP RIGHT THIS TIME OUT SEPTEMBER 9

Asheville, NC-based singer/songwriter Nicole Lund, who makes music under the moniker lund, has announced the forthcoming release of her debut LP, Right This Time, on September 9th. Two singles from the album have been released — the soulful title track, and the rock-centric “Don’t You Leave Me.”

“I don’t know if you believe in this crap,” says lund, who recently had her tarot read. “But I drew the Hermit card, representing exploration and personal growth. He’s shining a light: Come on out of the shadows!” After a decade in the music business on the management and booking sides, the classically-trained singer has finally moved toward the light. “It was time,” she reveals.

lund’s debut album Right This Time, was recorded with producer Tyler “The Falcon” Greenwell (Tedeschi Trucks Band) at Echo Mountain Studios and Sedgwick Studios in her adoptive hometown of Asheville. The album features original songs honed over her decades-long stint in New York City as a working musician, promoter, and manager. Written in collaboration with local artist Brandon Townsend — and additional contributions from guitarist Paul Olsen (Scrapomatic, Susan Tedeschi, Kristina Train) — lund’s soulful brand of Americana runs the gamut from punchy blues to plaintive weepers. Her band is a reflection of her eclectic tastes: Dave Yoke on guitar (Dr. John, Susan Tedeschi), Brandon Boone on bass (Tedeschi Trucks Band, Col. Bruce Hampton) and New Orleanian Isaac Eady (Tedeschi Trucks Band, Rhiannon Giddens) on drums.

Her musical journey actually started with a Music Industries Studies degree — with a concentration in vocal performance — from Appalachian State University. Suffice to say, she “knows her shit.” “My voice professor was an opera singer,” says lund with a grin. “I sang every spiritual I could to avoid opera.” Her passion and training are evident on the Nina Simone-derived psych-soul of “Don’t You Leave Me,” the grungy swirl of “Paper Tiger,” and her subtle self-harmonizing on the title track. On this eclectic stroll through American musical styles, lund’s clarion voice is the tie that binds.

In the summer of 2020, with the pandemic on the rise and an album’s worth of rock solid material in the tank, she realized how she could optimize her quarantine. The tricky dance of socially-distanced recording was well worth it. “I always felt like a late bloomer in life,” she reflects. “But now I know it’s all about timing.”

THE ACCIDENTALS & KABOOM COLLECTIVE STUDIO ORCHESTRA RELEASE NEW SINGLE “MANGROVE”

REIMAGINED ALBUM SET FOR RELEASE JULY 29

TOUR BEGINS AT THE ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME ON AUGUST 3

LISTEN: “MANGROVE”

Today, Nashville-based, female-fronted, critically-acclaimed trio The Accidentals and the Cleveland-based Kaboom Collective Studio Orchestra have released “Mangrove,” the latest stunner from their forthcoming collaborative album, Reimagined, set for release on July 29th. The track, a fan favorite cut from The Accidentals’ 2013 debut LP Bittersweet, is given “a Hollywood-esque lick of paint with this cinematic reimagining,” says PopMatters. “Sav Buist delivers a captivating lead vocal as the orchestra swirls about her and Katie Larson, meeting her folk spiritual with an adventurous edge.”

“Kaboom Collective was honored to work with The Accidentals to arrange, perform, and record a new version of ‘Mangrove’ with full orchestra, adding a magical dimension to this already dreamy song that fans love,” says Kaboom Collective co-founder Joe Weagraff. “Liam Cummins, a student on the Kaboom Composition Team, arranged the piece with The Accidentals. He amplified the playfulness and layers within ‘Mangrove’ that make it special…its whimsical, atmospheric, and positive vibe reflects the mission of our group and our partnership with The Accidentals.” “Mangrove” follows the release of “Lady Of Lake,” the lead single from Reimagined.

That process allowed Buist and Larson to work with an orchestra on a completely new level. “Liza was one of the most inspirational teachers we have had the pleasure of working with,” says Buist. “We learned more from her in a week than in any classroom we have been in.”

CHAYLA HOPE RELEASES VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE “FALLING” + DEBUT LIVE PERFORMANCE ON JULY 22

WATCH // LISTEN: “FALLING”

Cleveland-based powerhouse Chayla Hope has unveiled the new video for her latest single “Falling,” an ode to the all-too-familiar feeling of instantly connecting with someone, only to question whether or not to blame it on the alcohol. In the video, directed by Zachariah Durr, Chayla turns the stereotypical music video love narrative on its head. "We wanted to play on people's expectations because, at its core, pop can be subversive and fun,” she explains of the video’s inspiration. “And sometimes that fun looks like a pair of platforms, rhinestone-studded suits, and a puppet devouring a male model whole."

Mixed by 10-time GRAMMY Award winner Josh Gudwin (Bad Bunny, Justin Bieber, Dua Lipa), this dark, intoxicating earworm evokes Chayla’s past as a drag performer. Its strutting groove turns any space into a runway fit for vamping. Chorus.fm, who premiered the track, called it “perfect for fans of Lady Gaga and Dua Lipa.”

“Falling” follows her infectious single “Love In Lo-Fi”; the song’s accompanying music video was directed by JR Strickland with choreography by Nicole Kirkland. "Falling in love will forever remind me of dancing,” says Chayla of the video’s inspiration. “Whether it's with a person, yourself, or your dreams, when you're in it, your pain disappears and you get to enjoy the feeling of being alive." Both singles will appear on her forthcoming debut LP Damn, Feelings, set for release in late 2022.

CHEST FEVER: A TRIBUTE TO THE BAND ANNOUNCE THEIR ROCK OF AGES TOUR DATES

San Diego band Mrs. Henry is excited to announce their project Chest Fever, a tribute to legendary rock group The Band, and will be touring and performing songs from the legendary Rock of Ages live album to celebrate its 50th Anniversary this year.

Mrs. Henry is led by Dan Cervantes (Howlin Rain guitarist + Blind Owl label owner), and is rounded out by Jody Bagley (Vocals and Keyboards), Blake Dean (Vocals and Bass), and Chad Lee (Vocals and Drums).  The group was ignited by a consciousness-changing West Coast tour in 2015. Since then, Mrs. Henry has spent the last five years on the road building an unrivaled reputation for their brand of intergalactic boogie with a torrent of improvisation, and in turn, a cult following atop their already well-established individual credits (Howlin’ Rain, The Schizophonics, The Silent Comedy). Endurance is their vocation and bringing unapologetically live music into a new era is their mission.

The idea of Chest Fever started to bloom back in 2017 when Mrs. Henry set their sights on paying homage to that historic 1976 night where The Band , along with a group of iconic friends and musicians, documented their legendary final performance at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco, that we now know as the The Last Waltz, by recreating it in their hometown of San Diego.  Planning and rehearsing for the event took nearly a year, and the stress nearly broke up the band. But for Mrs. Henry, the challenge ignited a new purpose and an infectious wave of inspiration. On November 26, 2017 Mrs. Henry performed the Last Waltz in its entirety with a wonderful community of San Diego artists, along with guest performances by Pat Beers of The Schitzophonics, Brenden Dellar of Sacri Monti, Jesse Lee of The Paragraphs, Clinton Davis, Noah C Lekas and more.

The show was recorded and released by Blind Owl on multiple formats including a triple vinyl set, mixed by Stephen Kaye (The Growlers, Ziggy Marley), mastered by Joe Bozzi, known for his work with Last Waltz alumni Neil Young and Joni Mitchell, and housed in a high-quality LP jacket designed by artist Roy G. Biv.  The vinyl package also includes an exclusive bonus 7” featuring studio versions of “The Weight” and “Evangeline.”  The film premiered at the Oceanside Film Festival  (more details HERE),  was a part of the International Shorts Film Festival. The group performed The Last Waltz again in November 2021 at Solana Beach, CA’s Belly Up Tavern alongside legendary musicians including Eagles collaborator and hit songwriter Jack Tempchin, violinist Scarlet Rivera of Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Review, solo artist and Black Crowes Member Marc Ford, and local hero Isaiah Mitchell.  After the sold out performance, the group set out to continue their sights on honoring The Band and their impact on rock and roll.

Now, with the official stamp of approval from The Band itself, the group is back to recreate another quintessential performance era from The Band’s collection. This year marks the 50th anniversary of The Band’s Rock of Ages live album, a collection of live recordings from the group’s four night 1971 residency at the Academy of Music in New York City. This residency additionally featured on-stage performances from a number of legendary artists including Howard Johnson, Snooky Young, Joe Farrell, J.D. Parron, and Earl McIntyre.  Bob Dylan additionally made a surprise visit and performance on the New Year’s eve show, and performed the final four songs with The Band to ring in 1972. A widely celebrated album, Rock of Ages underscored The Band’s ambitious on-stage vision, and further cemented their place in rock music history.

Each night Chest Fever will be performing songs from Rock of Ages, including such staples as “Caledonia Mission,” “The Unfaithful Servant,” “Get Up Jake,” and of course “Chest Fever.” They will additionally be cycling in a number of deeper cuts from The Band’s oeuvre, including “Rockin’ Chair,” “Time To Kill,” as well as classics originally left out Rock of Ages including “Up on Cripple Creek,” “I Shall Be Released,” and more.  “The first time I heard The Band was when I was a young kid seeing The Last Waltz over Thanksgiving,” says Blind Owl Records ringleader and Chest Fever member Dan Cervantes. “My Dad played the video or rented from Blockbuster at the time, that just lit a fire.”

WATCH “THE SHAPE I’M IN” FROM DRUNKARD’S DREAM ARTS AND MUSIC FESTIVAL HERE

The group will be performing alongside local horn sections from each city to recreate the iconic contributions from Johnson, Young, Farrel, McIntyre, and Parron, while additionally featuring a special guest in select towns to perform the 4 song Bob Dylan set from the original residency. The band will feature an all-star group of accomplished and celebrated players at the final tour stop at Brooklyn’s Sultan Room on August 15th, including trumpeter Eric Biondo (TV on the Radio, Budos Band, Antibalas), sousaphone and tuba player John Altieri (David Byrne, St. Vincent, Jon Batiste), saxophonist Stuart Bogie (Antibalas, TV on the Radio, Arcade Fire), and trombonist Dave ‘Smoota’ Smith (TV on the Radio, Run The Jewels, Steven Tyler).  Each concert will feature slight variations to give audiences a unique experience in honoring the legacy of The Band, and the lasting power of Rock of Ages.

Today, Pittsburgh-based duo The Early Mays (Ellen Gozion and Emily Pinkerton) have released

their new EP, Prettiest Blue. “ Restoratively vintage, their no-frills roots music brings a warmth that is often missed in raucous contemporary releases,” For Folk’s Sake said of the band.

Somewhere on the border between old-time music and modern American songwriting, The Early Mays have built a band with harmonies that feel like home. It’s a partnership that has shared slow-burning, perfectly paired vocals for ten years—from NPR’s Mountain Stage to house concerts all over the mid-Atlantic.

WATCH: “ON A DYING DAY”

From the old-time music community, The Early Mays have absorbed the culture of deep listening that’s central to playing with sensitivity. “Revivalists like us–who didn’t live and breathe Appalachian music growing up–still learn and create by ear for the most part,” Pinkerton explains. “Being able to carry hours of tunes in my head was life-changing. And there is new meaning to uncover each time you return to a field recording or slowly build a relationship with a mentor.”

That practice of deep listening–and slow, careful craftsmanship–spills over into every Early Mays performance and production as they sculpt their warm, immersive sound. The past ten years have been a steady search for musical and spiritual sustenance: for themselves and for their listeners. “Prettiest Blue is about keeping your eyes trained on something brighter, even in the midst of sadness,” reflects Pinkerton.

When recording albums, the band has explored everything from a single condenser mic in a church sanctuary to analog tape and vintage compressors. To obtain a particularly pared down, “in the room” sound for Prettiest Blue, they recorded at Audible Images in Pittsburgh, PA with Hollis Greathouse, and combined live takes with multi-tracked vocals and cello. Drawn by Alex Perialas’ work on Richie Stearns and Rosie Newton’s latest release, The Early Mays decided to mix at Pyramid Sound Studios in Ithaca, NY. “Alex gave the mixes the exact acoustic blend we’d been hunting for, transparent and lush at the same time,” says Pinkerton.

Cellist Nicole Myers joins the band on Prettiest Blue, lending sweeping melodic lines to support the vocals and old-time textures. She is a founding member of Cello Fury (www.cellofury.com), an ensemble that bridges rock and classical music. “Her flexibility as a player has made this project especially poignant. She always adds the right emotion to the song,” says Pinkerton. “She’s a beautiful collaborator,” adds Gozion, “and she takes the time to understand our music inside and out.” The deep tones of the cello are a match made in heaven for banjo, harmonium, and fiddle arrangements that underpin “crystal-clear voices” and “stunning harmony lines” (Adam Hurt).

A decade of friendship is palpable in the co-arranged songs, as well as the dedication to craft and the sustained pursuit of a rich acoustic aesthetic. You may find yourself comfortably swaying in that neo-traditional space–somewhere between old-time and songwriter sensibilities–getting a glimpse of how much these songs have been cared for.

CHAYLA HOPE PREMIERES NEW SINGLE “FALLING” VIA CHORUS.FM + DEBUT LIVE PERFORMANCE ON JULY 22

LISTEN: “FALLING”

Cleveland-based powerhouse Chayla Hope has unleashed her latest single “Falling,” an ode to the all-too-familiar feeling of instantly connecting with someone, only to question whether or not to blame it on the alcohol. Mixed by 10-time GRAMMY Award winner Josh Gudwin (Bad Bunny, Justin Bieber, Dua Lipa), this dark, intoxicating earworm evokes Chayla’s past as a drag performer. Its strutting groove arrives just in time to close out Pride Month and turns any space into a runway fit for vamping. Chorus.fm, who premiered the track, called it “perfect for fans of Lady Gaga and Dua Lipa.”

To celebrate the release, Chayla has launched a collaboration with Rood Food & Pie in Cleveland, who will offer a vegan strawberry rhubarb pie called the “Falling For You” over the next few weeks.

LISTEN // WATCH: “LOVE IN LO-FI”

It is me.”

THE ACCIDENTALS & KABOOM COLLECTIVE STUDIO ORCHESTRA RELEASE NEW SINGLE “LADY OF THE LAKE” + REIMAGINED ALBUM SET FOR RELEASE JULY 29

TOUR BEGINS AT THE ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME ON AUGUST 3

Today, Nashville-based, female-fronted, critically-acclaimed trio The Accidentals and the Cleveland-based Kaboom Collective Studio Orchestra have unveiled “Lady Of The Lake,” the whimsical first single from their forthcoming collaborative album, Reimagined, set for release on July 29th. “The entire team of educators and students is so proud to publish this work,” says Kaboom Collective co-founder and conductor Liza Grossman. “We hope everyone who hears this music feels the passion, love, and authenticity of the partnership between Kaboom and The Accidentals.”

LISTEN: “LADY OF THE LAKE”

Kaboom Collective, founded by Grossman and Joe Weagraff, gives students the opportunity to receive cutting-edge music education.

Buist and Larson met Grossman, the Conductor and Director of the Studio Orchestra, when she reached out about recording one of The Accidentals’ songs with the orchestra. That process allowed Buist and Larson to work with an orchestra on a completely new level. “Liza was one of the most inspirational teachers we have had the pleasure of working with,” says Buist. “We learned more from her in a week than in any classroom we have been in.”

Collaborating with Kaboom was a no-brainer: their missions of music education and empowerment aligned. The Accidentals have a repertoire of cinematic music well-suited to be reimagined with a full orchestra. They provided basic tracks and Grossman’s students scored, arranged, and recorded 11 Accidentals songs alongside industry professionals who guided their creation in a supportive, encouraging way.

IMOGEN CLARK RELEASES “DYNAMIC” (-ATWOOD MAGAZINE) NEW SINGLE “NONCHALANT”

CELEBRATING HALFWAY MARK OF “100 SHOWS IN 100 DAYS” AUSTRALIAN TOUR

SYDNEY, AUS - Hot off the heels of her AIR Awards nomination for Best Pop Album/EP, Western Sydney indie artist Imogen Clark will release her cathartic new single ‘Nonchalant’, which also celebrates reaching the halfway point of her mammoth ‘100 Shows in 100 Days’ tour.

“An unfiltered and unapologetic assertion of self-worth, Imogen Clark’s dynamic new single ‘Nonchalant’ soars with passion and charged energy as sets her spirit free.” – Atwood Magazine

The new single, already a live favourite, sees Imogen in the producer chair for the first time, along with co-writer Sam Phay (a respected artist and producer in his own right), determined to bring the intensity of the song’s emotional core to the track.

“I wrote this song with Sam and Demi Louise at the start of the year, burning with turmoil over this guy who was keeping me on the hook and watching me squirm. It was tearing me apart and I brought that energy into the session,” Imogen recalls. “Every time I’ve played this live, women come up to me and tell me I need to release it, so I decided to get this out there for all the people who need a place to put their feelings about a fuckboy in their life”.

‘Nonchalant’ is the follow up to acclaimed single ‘Enemy’, a star-studded co-write with Alex Lahey that featured Adam Newling, members of Middle Kids and Superorganism and production by Joji Malani aka Pei. The release of ‘Enemy’ kicked off Imogen’s gargantuan ‘100 Shows in 100 Days Tour’, a sprawling trek across Australia that has so far seen her play everywhere from Newcastle to Cowra, Melbourne to Mudgee, Brisbane to Gippsland and many more places besides, mixing high octane full band sets with intimate solo performances and a sprinkling of surprise pop-up shows (like a protest set outside Kirribilli House in the lead up to the Federal Election) and full production online gigs for her international fans.

Many more dates are still to come across Bathurst, Melbourne, Central Coast, Tamworth and more before the epic tour wraps up in Adelaide on Wednesday 3 August.

“Getting back on the road, playing all these shows, seeing you all out there singing along… it’s like a rebirth, my soul coming back to life!” says Imogen.

It's the most ambitious project yet from an artist who has spent the most challenging two years the music industry has ever faced refusing to rest on her laurels, releasing critically acclaimed EPs The Making of Me and Bastards, two Christmas singles, a live record and even touring, including sold out EP launch shows in Sydney and the first two editions of her now annual Holiday Hootenanny shows, featuring guests including Ali Barter, I Know Leopard, Mo’Ju and Montaigne.

Cutting her teeth playing in Western Sydney bars during her teen years before touring and recording around the world, from the US to Europe to the UK, Imogen brings the depth and confidence of a seasoned superstar to the stage despite her youth. Taking inspiration from legends like Bruce Springsteen and Joni Mitchell as much as contemporary heroes Maggie Rogers and Sam Fender, Imogen’s music continues to dissolve the barriers between her emotions and her audience.

PRAISE FOR IMOGEN CLARK…

“… this EP will become a landmark.” – Rolling Stone (Australia)

“she commanded the stage with matchless acuity” – Sydney Morning Herald (4.5 stars)

“… the song hits all the right pop heights as Clark soars above the instrumental on the anthemic chorus… ascends to dizzying pop rock brilliance.” – Under The Radar

“…[ Imogen Clark] has been swinging for the hit-single fences for four albums Down Under but finally knocks it straight out of the park with this confection [‘My Own Worst Enemy’] from her latest American EP, The Making of Me.” – Paste Magazine

“Putting a more upbeat, optimistic spin on a more somber subject of breaking up, the delicate pop of “Found Me” gently pricks the pain and ultimate bravado of coming out on the other side of heartache, imbued in lyrics I gave you every piece of me, but you never had your fill… The strongest thing I did is gently let you go… I thought you were my home, so I will make my way.” -American Songwriter

“with powerful vocals and an infectious drum beat, Clark sets out to cure a broken heart. This breakup anthem will pick you up off the floor, dust you off and have you feeling ready to start seeing the world in color once again.” – Parade Magazine

“her music rangest from arena-ready rock anthems to raw confessional indie pop.” – Stage Right Secrets

“… poignant narrative and stellar musicianship.” – Beat Magazine

KATY GUILLEN & THE DRIVE PREMIERE “UPLIFTING ANGELIC” (-FOLKNROCK) SECOND SINGLE “DISCOLORATION” OUT JUNE 24

Credit: Morgan Jones

"DISCOLORATION" SINGLE

LISTEN

KANSAS CITY, MO. – Indie roots/rock duo Katy Guillen & The Drive have premiered the second single, “Discoloration” from their debut album Another One Gained produced by Kevin Ratterman (My Morning Jacket, Heartless Bastards, Ray LaMontagne) at Invisible Creature Studio in Los Angeles.

In the feature, FolknRock enthuses: “‘Discoloration’ has the soulful songwriting of the golden era of folk and country fused with the mesmeric guitar sounds of garage rock. Think of it as if Patty Griffin joined a post-grunge band. With its chorus and beautiful bridge with an uplifting angelic vibe, ‘Discoloration’ is a song that also shows not everything has to be in black and white.”

“Discoloration” (available 6/24) encapsulates a journey of inner turmoil through a densely gray mental space, but arrives at a determined and self-assured state of mind. Katy Guillen further explains, “The verses reflect on an inner turmoil – that ‘dark dense fog’ that left me overwhelmed and depressed – and working my way through it. Determination and self-assurance shine through in the chorus, with a sonic lift in the bridge, representing a brighter state of mind. Nothing ever stays the same, but it changes highways. In the face of disruption, you have to be ready to change with it.”

Katy Guillen & The Drive are currently on tour throughout the summer including a performance at Summerfest in Milwaukee this Saturday, 6/25. Further dates below.

BUZZ FOR “SET IN STONE”

“… an infectious guitar rocker, the video for which she now unveils in all of its hard-driving glory.” – V13

“…a rocking new fem-duo that dabbles in both pop and country with a toothy, bluesy edge.”- Country Queer

ABOUT KATY GUILLEN & THE DRIVE

Katy Guillen & The Drive – Katy Guillen (guitar) and Stephanie Williams (drums) - dropped their first EP, Dream Girl, right before the 2020 lockdown, leaving them without opportunities to perform live. In their basement rehearsal space, they spent the year learning home recording and pre-production techniques, gradually crafting a collection of songs from the ground up. The following April, they took the demos to producer/engineer Kevin Ratterman (My Morning Jacket, Heartless Bastards, Ray LaMontagne) at Invisible Creature Studio in Los Angeles. From their work with Ratterman emerged a batch of 15 songs. At the end of 2021, the band released the four-track Battles EP, offering listeners a darker, more simmering edge to their impelling indie-rock sound. Ten more would comprise Another One Gained, the full-length debut due August 19, 2022.

GRAMMY® AWARD WINNERS CATHY FINK, MARCY MARXER, & TOM PAXTON RELEASE NEW SINGLE “WE’RE GETTING BACK TO NORMAL”

LIVE ALBUM PROJECT ALL NEW SET FOR RELEASE ON JULY 29TH

Photo: Michael G. Stewart

LISTEN: “WE’RE GETTING BACK TO NORMAL”

GRAMMY® Award-winning folk icons Tom Paxton, and Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer (who make music as Cathy & Marcy), have released “We’re Getting Back To Normal,” a joyful new single from their forthcoming live, double album collaboration, ALL NEW, set for release on July 29th. The songs on ALL NEW began in weekly co-writing sessions on ZOOM with Paxton and Fink in 2020. The results include love songs, comedy, history, social justice, and great storytelling, spanning styles from folk to bluegrass to swing to round-singing.

“We’re Getting Back To Normal” is a joyful earworm that celebrates society springing back to life after the isolation of the last couple of years, an exuberant blend of western swing, acoustic mastery, and lyrical sunshine. The single follows barn-burner “Since You,” which Bluegrass Today called a “sprightly number that makes you feel good for listening,” and “Pete’s Shoulders (The Power Of Song),” a tribute to the legendary Pete Seeger and in honor of his birthday.

They also recently released “Don’t Say Gay,” a topical, tongue-in-cheek song and video in response to Florida’s controversial House Bill 1557. The song and video feature the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, DC.

KYSHONA RELEASES NEW SINGLE “RISE THE TIDE" + NEW TOUR DATES SUPPORTING SHOVELS & ROPE

"...one of the most compassionate and uplifting young voices in Nashville today." - NPR

Photo: Nora Canfield

STREAM: “RISE THE TIDE”

Today, critically-acclaimed, Nashville-based artist Kyshona has released her latest single “Ride The Tide,” a swampy, foot-stomping anthem about how when one of us is supported and excels, the tide rises for everyone, inspired by her fellow artists, activists, and change-makers.

"Over the past three years, I have seen it all around me--from acknowledgment of things that are wrong in the music industry to people lending support, giving space, and making strides,” Kyshona says. “As artists in our community are finally being placed in the spotlight, with each success we have individually, we rise the tide together. This song acknowledges and celebrates that--and is meant as a call of encouragement to keep doing the work that isn’t always easy."

“Rise The Tide” follows “Out Loud,” a song she wrote with friend and fellow artist Caroline Spence, about braving the silence to speak a difficult truth. The video was created by Nashville-based, Emmy-nominated animator Katie Callahan in collaboration with Salt Lake City illustrator Molly Powers. “This video captures the feeling one may have when they speak their truth, that you’re speaking into the void,” Kyshona says. “But the power of using your voice is that the sound creates ripple effects that go on forever. One day, those sound waves will reach someone and you’ll realize you were never really alone,” she adds. “It’s not always easy to say what you need or to tell someone about something that happened to you, but it is important to find the words to do so when you’re ready. It’s equally important to let folks around you know that you are listening.”

The importance of listening is a central theme of Kyshona’s music. In 2020, she released the appropriately-titled LP Listen, which was lauded by NPR, Billboard, Rolling Stone, No Depression, The Bluegrass Situation, The Nashville Scene, and more.

Kyshona is an artist ignited by untold stories, and the capacity of those stories to thread connection in every community.  With the background of a licensed music therapist, the curiosity of a writer, the patience of a friend, the vision of a social entrepreneur, the resolve of an activist, and the voice of a singer, Kyshona is unrelenting in her pursuit for the healing power of song.

She lends her voice and music to those that feel they have been silenced or forgotten.  She facilitates writing sessions with groups and individuals who feel left out or marginalized, in hopes of reconnecting those who are divided. In 2021, she founded charitable organization Your Song,* which currently provides therapeutic songwriting sessions with at-risk and marginalized youth, with the elderly to aid in memory care/recovery, with incarcerated populations and those re-entering society, with those experiencing addiction and those in recovery, as well as programming geared towards women’s health and healing, strengthening bonds between new parents and their children, and more.

LISTEN: “ON A DYING DAY”

Today, Pittsburgh-based duo The Early Mays (Ellen Gozion and Emily Pinkerton) have released

“On A Dying Day,” the latest single from their forthcoming EP, Prettiest Blue, due out on July 1, 2022. The song was written by Pinkerton, who drew inspiration from the shores of Lake Michigan, where she was raised.

“The Early Mays offer an inward-looking, heartfelt approach to Appalachia,” said For Folk’s Sake in their premiere of the track. “Restoratively vintage, their no-frills roots music brings a warmth that is often missed in raucous contemporary releases…Their vocal and instrumental chops are given ample space to impress on the reflective tune, ‘On a Dying Day,’” they continue. “Gorgeous harmonies take the forefront, painting a lyrical picture of the shores that the single is inspired by.”

“I go to the dunes whenever I can. It’s a place where I can make sense of who I am in the world, especially when things get hard,” Pinkerton told For Folk’s Sake. “I tried to make the banjo sound like rolling waves. In a similar way, the words of ‘On a Dying Day’ ‘roll’ back and forth, as the last lines of one stanza grow into the first line of the next,” she explains of the song, the structure of which she derived from Chilean folk poetry. “‘On a Dying Day’ is about finding redemption at the shore.” Its release follows lead single “The Ballad Of Johnny Fall,” a newly-composed "old-time" murder ballad that challenges the misogynistic themes of traditional Appalachian murder ballads.

LISTEN: “THE BALLAD OF JOHNNY FALL”

Somewhere on the border between old-time music and modern American songwriting, The Early Mays have built a band with harmonies that feel like home. It’s a partnership that has shared slow-burning, perfectly paired vocals for ten years—from NPR’s Mountain Stage to house concerts all over the mid-Atlantic.

The Early Mays will celebrate the release with a show at SongSpace in Pittsburgh on June 25th. Click HERE for show information. Be sure to follow the band at the links below for the latest news.

THE ACCIDENTALS ANNOUNCE COLLABORATION WITH KABOOM COLLECTIVE STUDIO ORCHESTRA

REIMAGINED ALBUM SET FOR RELEASE JULY 29

TOUR BEGINS AT THE ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME ON AUGUST 3

Nashville-based, female-fronted, critically-acclaimed trio The Accidentals have partnered with the Kaboom Collective for a groundbreaking collaborative release—an EP called Reimagined. Eleven of their most popular songs were re-recorded with a 40-piece student orchestra, coming July 29th. Followed by a fourteen-day “Reimagined” tour that kicks off on August 3rd, at the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland. See The Accidentals and Kaboom Collective Studio Orchestra live at Mile of Music Festival, Wrigley Field,  Frederik Meijer Gardens, and more.

Kaboom Collective gives students the opportunity to receive cutting-edge education.

Musicians aged 15-25 work under the tutelage of award-winning educator Liza Grossman, as well as members of the collective—a group of 50+ professional musicians, seasoned producers, recording engineers, composers, and production experts. Students receive hands-on experience, liner note and IMDb credit for their work, and the chance to learn in real time. Kaboom Collective was co-founded by Grossman and Joseph Weagraff, a project empowered by the duo’s combined industry and educational experience.

The Accidentals’ Katie Larson and Sav Buist met in their public high school orchestra and became a band after witnessing an immersive workshop by two women that played the same instruments they did. Seeing the possibilities firsthand gave them the courage and empowerment to pursue music beyond the orchestra. They were inspired. They often say that music connected them to friendships and skill sets that changed the trajectory of their lives for the better.

The pair met Grossman, the Conductor and Director of the Studio Orchestra, when she reached out about recording one of The Accidentals’ songs with the orchestra. That process allowed Buist and Larson to work with an orchestra on a completely new level. “Liza was one of the most inspirational teachers we have had the pleasure of working with,” says Buist. “We learned more from her in a week than in any classroom we have been in.”

The Accidentals have a repertoire of cinematic music well-suited to be reimagined with a full orchestra. They provided basic tracks and Grossman’s students scored, arranged, and recorded eleven Accidentals songs alongside industry professionals who guided their creation in a supportive, encouraging way. That album would be released, and a tour would be arranged for The Accidentals with the Kaboom Studio Orchestra, one where the students would learn tour management, sound engineering, merchandising, stage crew skills, hospitality, promotion, marketing, press, and more.

The Accidentals and the Kaboom Studio Orchestra will kick off a string of tour dates together to support the release of Reimagined on August 3rd. See below for a full list of dates. Be sure to follow them on the links below for all the latest news and updates.
